Really sad to see another theft occurring from our local community Newquay Museum Group.

Once again the small number of volunteers at Newquay Museum Group have been shocked at another theft from the donation box. We are financially poorly supported so every loss is upsetting. Most of our donations come from visitors to Newquay.

This time we know who the thief is as he was captured on CCTV and we will be contacting BID and the police. Not that any charge is likely to be made against him but we would want to put other businesses and charities on warning.

Guy was aged about 50, bald, wearing glasses and blue top and shorts. We feel that this scumbag is local.

The donation box will in future be kept in Proper Photography Kernow and a QR Code provided to access our Sumup payment option via our website at https://newquaymuseum.org/donations/

From our friends at the Crantock Story Cafe - ‘An everyday story of country folk'.

Ben Dobson is presenting the story of the Jenkin family who lived at Trevowah Farm, Crantock in the 1800’s.

We hope you can join us on Monday 11th May at 7pm in the restaurant at Halwyn Driving Range TR8 5TR. This is a free event with donation to Crantock SLSC.

Check out the Newquay St Pirans Festival Group video. Nice to see our William featured carrying our NOCS banner at the front of the parade. Willie has done sterling work over several years in carrying our banner at various events including the Gorsedh Kernow Esedhvos. Click the video image link to view.

Some lovely celebrations and views of Newquay captured in this video which is dedicated to a great friend and son of Newquay, Rob Spowart. Lots more information about Newquay St Piran's and Rob Spowart on their website at www.newquaystpiransfestival.org

Its wonderful to see our oldest hotel having a well deserved refurbishment.

Newquay Museum & our volunteer William Emmett kindly provided a number of historic pictures of the town for phase 1 of the refurbishment which have been displayed throughout the Trennarren wing of the hotel.

The improvements mark a significant milestone in the building’s transformation

Yesterday evening (14/04/2026) at the Great Western Hotel we held our AGM, followed by a fascinating presentation showcasing some wonderful image donations from the past year, including the Bernard White Collection, the Thatcher Collection and the Daniell Collection.

We would like to extend our thanks to everyone who has donated items and supported us in preserving Newquay’s rich history.

Many thanks also to all our members and visitors who have attended our monthly talks this year. We have had a fantastic variety of speakers.

We look forward to meeting again at the Great Western Hotel in September.

Newquay Museum Group has had some fantastic donations of images over the past year. The final batch of the 'Bernard White Collection' of Newquay and Mid-Cornwall during the late 20th century.

The 'Thatcher Collection' has images of both the Ada's on the River Gannel and the artifacts held there. Not forgetting some images and video of Charlie Force and his submarine.

The 'Daniel's Collection' has images of Newquay going back to the mid to late 19th century as well as later 20th century. Lots of other 'stuff' as well.

We thank all those folk who have donated and helped us preserve Newquay's past through images and many other artefacts.

Following a short Newquay Old Cornwall Society AGM we will be showing a presentation of some images from these vast collections as an example of what we do within the Newquay Museum Group in preserving and sharing Newquay's historical past.

Another example of Newquay's history being fabricated. Queen Victoria NEVER visited the Atlantic Hotel. It gets quite wearing seeing so many incorrect fictions peddled as facts in various Newquay social media groups and pages and elsewhere.

Newquay Museum Group which includes Newquay Old Cornwall Society carryout extensive research on anything they share. A very small group of people with access to an extensive archive in a battle to preserve Newquay and district's history and culture. Sadly poorly supported.

Here we go again with another piece of poorly researched information. Queen Victoria NEVER visited the Atlantic Hotel in Newquay. When the hotel was completed in 1892 Queen Victoria would have been 73 at the time and last visited Cornwall in 1846 with Prince Albert. Where do people get these fantasies from?

Our guest speaker on Tuesday evening, Jason Semmens, delivered a fascinating illustrated talk on Witchcraft and Folk Magic in Cornwall. Drawing on his extensive knowledge, research and understanding of Cornish folklore, Jason gave a very interesting insight into this intriguing aspect of Cornwall’s cultural history.

The talk was very well attended and greatly enjoyed by all who came along.

Our next meeting will be the final one of the season and will include our AGM, followed by an illustrated talk by the museum highlighting some of the most interesting donations made to the museum. We will be meeting again at the Great Western Hotel on Tuesday 14th April at 7pm. All are welcome.
