Discover the history of this historic footpath and hear about the campaign to protect public access.

"We can rightly claim that our Banner, if not the finest in the country, is one of the finest.”

These words reflect the pride that the Newquay Old Cornwall Society has always held in its historic banner. After nearly 100 years of representing the Society, the banner is going into retirement.
We are hoping to raise the funds needed to recreate the banner, ensuring that this important symbol of our local heritage can continue to be proudly carried at Cornish ceremonies, festivals and other events for generations to come.
We would be very grateful for any support towards bringing the banner. Every contribution however small, will help us preserve this important part of our history and allow the banner to be proudly carried once again!

Our aim is raise £1400 to produce a suitable banner for all weathers so our old banner can be retired and preserved for future generations.

Tonight at the Great Western Hotel the Newquay Museum Group hosts Vince Williams to give an illustrated talk on 'The legacies of Levant Mine'.

This one of Cornwall's most famous mines was also a place of one of its greatest industrial disasters. All are welcome to attend the talk starts at 7:30pm in the Great Western Hotel function room.

We’re delighted to announce the launch of the Newquay Heritage Trail, a project celebrating the people, places and buildings that have shaped Newquay’s history.

The project is being led by Newquay Museum Group , working alongside Newquay Old Cornwall Society and the Newquay Conservation Area.

The project has been made possible through grant funding from Newquay Town Council.

3D printed plaques featuring QR codes will be installed around the town, allowing residents and visitors to discover the stories behind Newquay’s heritage.

Newquay Museum Group and Newquay Old Cornwall Society were delighted to welcome members and visitors to the first talk of our 2026/27 programme on Tuesday evening.

The evening featured a fascinating illustrated presentation by Lyndon Allen, “The Wooden Ships and Iron Men”, exploring Cornwall’s maritime history and the people who sailed its ships.

Many thanks to Lyndon for such an interesting and enjoyable presentation, and to everyone who came along to our meeting.

Newquay Museum Group Starts its 2026-2027 season of talks with Wooden Ships and Iron Men on 22nd September beginning at 7:30pm at the Great Western Hotel in the function room. All are welcome.

Newquay Museum Group begins its 2026-2027 season of illustrated talks with Wooden Ships and Iron Men - The Merchant Schooners, on Tuesday 22nd September at the Great Western Hotel. This talk will look at the vessels and their crews during the time of sail when small ports such as those around the Cornish coast were busy importing and exporting goods from around Britain and beyond.

All are welcome to join us in the function room adjoining the bar at the Great Western Hotel starting at 7:30pm. Members are free with a annual £10.00 membership, guests £5.00.

Newquay Old Cornwall Society attended the Bardic Ceremony at the Gorsedh Kernow Esedhvos Festival today. This is one of the most important of Cornwall's heritage festivals and was held in Bodmin. (05/09/2026)

Lyn May of the St Columb Old Cornwall Society and Will Emmett proudly bearing the banners, joining the procession of The Old Cornwall Societies and other Cornish affiliations.

Also, after nearly 100 years of proudly representing Newquay, our historic banner will retire, with today being its final outing. However, a new ‘all-round’ banner in the same design will hopefully take its place!

Do you remember the SS Torrey Canyon oil spill of 1967?

Mor Media Charity are inviting people to share their memories, stories, photographs, documents and films as part of Black Tide, a project supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Whether you witnessed the disaster, helped with the clean-up, or havestories or memorabilia, your contribution could help preserve this important chapter in the history of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly ahead of the 60th anniversary in 2027.
