Set in 125 acres of glorious grounds, and dating back to the 14th century, Hever Castle was once the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry VIII and Mother of Elizabeth I. It formed the unlikely backdrop to a sequence of tumultuous events that changed the course of Britainโs history, monarchy and religion, making it one of the most fascinating castles in Kent.
Its panelled rooms house fine furniture, tapestries, antiques and what is regarded by some as โone of the best collections of Tudor portraits after the National Portrait Galleryโ. Also, two prayer books which belonged to Anne Boleyn and bear her inscriptions and signature are on display.
As the air turns crisp and a rich display of autumn colour envelops the countryside, the Castle is arguably at its most romantic during autumn when the Boston Ivy adorning the front of the Castle turns a vivid shade of red. Throughout the grounds, glorious displays of seasonal colour await, with rich yellow, red and orange leaves of beech mingling with liquidambars, tulip trees and Japanese maples to create a spectacular explosion of colour.
