Stand Firm, Strike Hard:Museum of the Mercian Regiment - WFR Collection The Museum of the Mercian Regiment (Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Collection) is based in Nottingham

The Museum of the Mercian Regiment (WFR Collection) houses the collections of the 45th Regiment of Foot, the 95th Regiment of Foot, the Sherwood Foresters, Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters and now the Mercian Regiment (Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters)

The Museum tells the story of the Regiment from its beginnings in 1741 right through to as it stands today as the Mercian Regiment. For

We are pleased to announce that the National Army Museum will be the new home of the Lord Ashcroft collection of Victoria Crosses and George Crosses.

Further details of the new partnership between Lord Ashcroft and the National Army Museum relating to the display of his VC and GC collection will be released over the coming months.

in 1812, the 45th formed part of Wellington’s force which stormed the fortress of Badajoz by escalade.

In this battle Lieutenant McPhearson of the 45th seized the sentry, and, making his way to the flagstaff, hauled down the flag and hoisted his own red jacket, for want of a British Flag, on the tower of the castle to indicate that it was in our hands and testified to the gallant part the 45th had taken in the assault. The 1st Battalion honours the memory of this day by the Trooping of the colour followed by a General Holiday for all ranks.

On this day 111 years ago the Battle of Neuve Chapelle was taking place. Private Jacob Rivers of the 1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters was killed in action. He was later awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions on that day. Read more on the link below

This year we put a call out to local schools for the creation of Poppies for our gallery in Nottingham Castle and we have been inundated with Poppies. Yesterday Private Derby welcomed some of those who contributed inlcuding the care home residents who knitted some poppies for us.

This VE and VJ Day commemoration project is supported using public funding by UK Government through Arts Council England’
