A little glimpse behind today’s demonstration for Driffield Art Club…
This piece is built up in layers, starting with the simplest step - just painting the tree shape with clean water.
From there, I introduce acrylic ink and let it move and spread, before adding touches of watercolour to create those unexpected textures.
Once everything is dry, I can start to bring it together with watercolour, creating a few background and foreground details. As the bluebells are out now, I couldn't resist adding some hints of these lovely spring flowers.
It’s a lovely way to work - loose, unpredictable, and very freeing.
If you’re curious about how this all comes together in real life, I’ll be opening my studio this Thursday evening, so if you’re nearby and would like to see how I work (or just pop in for a look), you’d be very welcome.
