I’ve been busy making bits and bobs as prototypes for some of our upcoming crafty workshops, this is one of my favourites, a cute little ā€œMakerā€ kilt pin brooch! I think it’s pretty fancy, if I do say so myself!

I’m really keen to find out what you’d like to see Arts in the future!

I have some ideas for some workshops for adults, including a Grown Up Sketchbook Club, Zine Making, textile workshops, and crafty club, but I’d like to know what you’d fancy doing?!

Feel free to comment with suggestions or pop me a message!

Just a reminder that OCA will be closed this weekend for the Bank Holiday!

Here’s hoping for some glorious sunshine so everyone can make the most of the long weekend!

We’ll be back open as usual afterwards — enjoy the break!

Some of you might know that I’ve been studying for the last year and a half towards a Master’s Degree in Art History, and I’ve just put in my dissertation proposal!

I thought you might like to know what I’m working on - I’ve chosen to look at autobiographical textiles, specifically by Tracey Emin and Louise Bourgeois, and the changing attitudes to ā€˜women’s work’ and craft. So here are three of the books I’m enjoying at the moment, plus a little look at the textile work in the Tracey Emin ā€œA Second Lifeā€ exhibition , which is fantastic! Wish me luck!

The last (but not least!) of our exhibition artists is lovely Carla Hixon with her fantastic sheep! The sheep are on an adventure around Wales, so do pop in and see where they’ve been!

The next of our exhibition artists I’d like to share with you is the fantastic Deb Parker and her amazing mixed media eco-artwork. Deb is using her art to raise awareness of climate change and plastic waste, and profits from the sales of her cards will go to the Marine Conservation Society and the Shropshire Wildlife Trust .

On Tuesday, I tagged along with some of the Art History group on a day out to the Whitworth art gallery in Manchester, organised by The Arts Society mid-Wales and Borders. We had a lovely day, so I thought I’d share some of the highlights from the exhibitions - Beneath the Great Wave: Hokusai and Hiroshige, Delaine Le Bas: Un-Fair-Ground, Performing Trees, and Michaela Yearwood-Dan: the Practices of Liberation. Definitely worth a visit!

I’ve been sorting out the books from our art room, and we’re having a sale! Pop in and have a look at what’s going, if there’s something you fancy then help yourself, a little donation would be appreciated if you can spare it but we’d mostly be happy to see them going to a good home!

I’ll be sharing a little ā€˜in focus’ on all of our exhibition artists, starting with lovely Daniella Haggar !

We have work from three of Daniella’s different projects in the gallery - her beautiful Em and Lyon cuddly companions, work from her picture book ā€œA Tale of Two Dragonsā€ and her zine ā€œI need a heroā€.

I absolutely love Danniella’s work, and I’m sure you will too - do pop in and have a look!
