Panel Discussion l I DO & I Undo

The artists exhibiting in our current exhibition 'I Do & I Undo' will be joining us at the gallery for a panel discussion on Thursday 22nd OctoberAs part of the exhibition I Do & I Undo, Sarah Wiseman Gallery will be hosting a panel discussion with the artists.

Led by Gallery Director Sarah Wiseman, this panel discussion will explore contemporary narratives of feminity and how they relate to each artists practise. Exhibiting artists are Bliss Coulthard, Emily Gibbard, Heidi Inez, Erin Rosalie Thomas, Veronica Wells and Anastassia Zamaraeva.

The event will open at 6pm, the talk will begin at around 6:30pm and will last approximately 45 minutes. Due to the gallery size and layout, all attendees must RSVP. Regular visitors are welcome into the gallery once the talk has ended. Refreshments will be provided throughout the evening.

I Do & I Undo examines themes of emotion, relationships, identity, grief, sexuality and self-expression with humour, honesty, sensitivity and strength. Through diverse artistic practices, each artist offers a distinct perspective on lived experience while challenging traditional representations of femininity.

The exhibition title references the working philosophy of the late conceptual artist Louise Bourgeois, whose practice of revisiting and reworking artworks reflected an ongoing process of personal and artistic transformation. Inspired by this approach, I Do & I Undo embraces revision, reinvention and the layered nature of identity.

Huge thank you to everyone who joined us at the gallery last night to celebrate the opening of our new exhibition 'I Do & I Undo'

Introducing | Emily Gibbard 'I Do & I Undo'

Emily Gibbard creates wheel-thrown ceramic vessels that evolve into large-scale sculptural forms. Rooted in the traditions of pottery, her work explores body perception, identity and sexuality through abstract biomorphic sculpture. Emily has exhibited at Collect and London Craft Week, received Craft Council DYCP funding, and is the Founder and Director of Windmill Clay, an artist-led ceramics studio providing workspaces, mentoring and classes.

I Do & I Undo, is a contemporary group exhibition featuring artists Bliss Coulthard, Emily Gibbard, Heidi Inez, Erin Rosalie Thomas, Veronica Wells and Anastassia Zamaraeva. Working across painting, ceramics, sculpture and printmaking, the exhibition explores contemporary femininity, identity and the female experience through figurative art.

Using the figure as a vehicle for storytelling, I Do & I Undo considers how ideas of femininity continue to evolve. The exhibition examines themes of emotion, relationships, identity, grief, sexuality and self-expression with humour, honesty, sensitivity and strength. Through diverse artistic practices, each artist offers a distinct perspective on lived experience while challenging traditional representations of femininity.

Introducing l Veronica Wells 'I Do & I Undo'

Veronica Wells examines contemporary ideals of beauty, aspiration and perfection rooted in imagery drawn from popular culture through painting. Fashion, consumerism, relationships and identity recur throughout her paintings, where expressive brushwork contrasts with finely rendered detail. A graduate of Wi******er College of Art, Veronica has exhibited nationally and has worked with Sarah Wiseman Gallery since 2012.

Introducing | Anastassia Zamaraeva 'I Do & I Undo'

Anastassia Zamaraeva explores touch, memory, home, grief and gender through contemporary ceramic sculpture. Her practice investigates clay's ability to connect physical experience with the unconscious, while craftsmanship remains central to her work. Anastassia has exhibited widely across the UK and internationally, her work is held in private collections, and she is currently undertaking a residency at Revue Studios in London.

Introducing | Erin Rosalie Thomas 'I Do & I Undo'

Erin Rosalie Thomas creates figurative works exploring emotional nuance through facial expression, body language and sensory experience. Focusing on neurodivergent femininity, her paintings and monoprints examine the relationships people develop with everyday objects. Her practice also incorporates needle-felted surfaces, introducing tactile elements that encourage sensory engagement. Erin studied Fine Art at Kingston School of Art and has exhibited throughout the UK.

Heidi Inez illustrates women on hand-built ceramics inspired by the bold, eccentric and stylish individuals she encounters across London. Combining drawing with ceramics, her practice explores the many forms of female identity and self-expression. Heidi studied Fashion Illustration at London College of Fashion before developing her ceramic practice.

Introducing the artists in 'I Do & I Undo'

Bliss Coulthard

Bliss is a figurative watercolour painter whose work explores memory, love, loss and personal relationships. Drawing on moments from her own life, she creates atmospheric paintings that communicate emotions often difficult to express in words. She studied Painting at the University of Brighton before completing an MA in Illustration at the University of the Arts London (UAL).

Flora McLachlan - Heroic Housework - New Etchings

Printmaker Flora McLachlan's new series 'Heroic Housework', reflects on her feelings towards her relationship with the upkeep of her home. She says:

'In this series of etchings and lithographs, I want to examine my feelings about the epic mission and effort of house-keeping. I’ve been ambivalent about housework all my life, resenting it as an unpaid and unseen female-coded task that stands in the way of my true work. I’ve wanted to climb on the broomstick and fly away from the washing-up. But I also want to put sweeping in the stars and paint launderers on the cave wall alongside the hunters spearing wild boar.

Repetitive work has no triumphal end to it. Sadly there is no glorious festal celebration for universal actions like mopping the floor, tidying, or the washing of clothes'

This body of work gives centre stage to the domestic kitchen and often female force of nature that keeps it all going. With touches of humour the collection is part protest, part exhaustion, part recognition.
