Well… I’ve had a change of heart! As the closing date for the tender applications crept closer, I realised I didn’t want to regret not applying — and I’m definitely not quite ready to hang up my apron strings just yet!
So, I’m very happy to share the good news that the tender has been awarded to us 🎉 This means the team and I will be moving over to the Coach House, hopefully in April.
The Orangery will remain open and will continue to be run by me, serving hot and cold drinks, cakes and scones.
I very much hope the Coach House will become a true community café. We’ll be extending our opening hours, with 8am starts for breakfast, Sunday roasts, and early evening openings in the summer to support Penlee Open Air Theatre.
With this exciting expansion, we’ll also be looking to recruit more staff — front of house team members and a passionate cook to join us on this next chapter. If you’re interested or know someone who might be, we’d love to hear from you.
I’m really looking forward to working alongside the team at Penlee House and the Town Council to make this new venture a success for everyone.
The Coach House will also be available as a venue to hire, to exhibit local art, and much more as time unfolds.

Now that the tender for the The Orangery/ Coach House has been released, it is a good opportunity to let you all know that after a great deal of deliberation, I have decided not to re-apply for the tender. It has been an amazing journey for nearly 30 years, and I am incredibly proud of everything we have achieved together.

I have been working with Penzance Town Council on the future development of the café facilities for some time. The Orangery has outgrown the space within Penlee House, and it has become clear that the next stage of its journey requires a fresh approach and room to expand. I feel that now is the right moment for change, both for myself and for the venue.

I sincerely hope that the staff will be transferred to the new business owner. They are an exceptional team, without whom The Orangery would not be the success it is today.

Feeling the chill, why not pop in to see us at the Orangery Cafe and warm up with a gorgeous Origin Hot Chocolate made with the best Trink milk!!!
Keep an eye on our Menu, there may be some winter changes coming very soon, we’ve already been tempting you with the most amazing Beetroot Soup, Beetroot and Goats cheese Crustless Quiche, Homity Pie, and don’t forget the Pudding of the day!!!
