These are a real contrast to the eagle in landscapes that I posted yesterday. Take you pick. Which framing version do you prefer?

Coal tit and Goldcrest. I enjoyed painting the little acorn cups.

GOLDEN EAGLE COUNTRY Although known for my wildlife subjects at heart I'm very much a landscape painter. I love vistas with dramatic lighting and weather and my wildlife subjects are rarely without the context of a setting. Here we have two major paintings exemplifying my technique of the pinkish orange glow on snow. The foregrounds place the viewer right in the scene with sculpted drifted snow forms. It is often difficult to imagine how such incredible shapes came into existence.

It's that special time of year again - Swift Season! Those who know me will already be aware I've been building swift boxes over more than 2 decades.
At the start of the week I put up a new swift nesting box on the house of some friends. This design has three nesting chambers. Each entrance is approached up a landing ramp. It is a design that has worked for me before.
The cabling will be routed from the loft on a future visit, but we wanted to try out the swift calls. All works fine with swift tunes emanating from the two little "tweeter" speakers under the box. The calls help draw the interest of passing swifts so that they check out the des res and hopefully go on to nest in the future. Swifts need all the help we can give them!

A lovely batch of frames arrived yesterday so today I've been assembling them.
As ever placing a frame around a piece of artwork that I've spent so much time on is a moment of trepidation. A frame can make or break the presentation and there is always more than one way of framing a painting well. It's such a subjective process. I just give it the same love as the paintings and most of the time it works. I hope you like them.
I do understand that clients have their individual tastes and interior styles. I'm always happy to accommodate by swapping out frames and sourcing alternatives or providing my works unframed if preferred.

"Always on the Alert", Red Fox
Oils,18 x 28 inches
I arrived back at the studio after a week away in Dumfries and Galloway, a wonderful week out and about in the spring countryside. First in line was this fox painting and it felt good to bring it towards completion.

PAINTING IN PROGRESS
Oils,18 x 28 inches
The setting is pulling together. Tomorrow I'll be turning my hand to the fox focal point.
Does anyone have an idea for a title? I've done quite a few fox paintings and I'm seeking something that I haven't used before. My last title was "Deep in the Woods".

NEW
"Equally Matched", Battling Red Deer Stags
Original Oil Painting, 21 x 42 inches
Here is the finished painting. Using my imagination I've combined stag drama and an atmospheric autumn mountain scape. Stags fight with their antlers primarily to establish dominance and secure breeding rights over females (hinds) during the autumn breeding season, known as the rut. These battles allow them to defend their territory, determine the strongest male, and gain access to a harem of females. The sound of clattering antlers at close quarters never ceases to excite the senses.

Pink-footed Geese are a favourite subject for my paintings. They visit for the winter to escape the harsh conditions further north. When we get spring like days with favourable winds the geese will leave for their breeding grounds, north to the Arctic tundra of Iceland, East Greenland, and Svalbard (Spitsbergen).
