a great source of imagery and advertising from yesteryear are the pamphlets in
our archives?

Sourced from various local history collections they offer a snapshot of how Plymouth looked and the businesses that thrived in a particular era. This pamphlet from 1955, titled ‘Plymouth, Delightful Centre for Holidays’ includes a colourful illustration of Smeaton's tower and the Naval memorial on the Hoe, and a figure of Sir Francis Drake in the clouds above.

Throughout are advertisements for local businesses such as: E Di**le & Co., Ltd; Genoni's restaurant Suisse; the Grand Hotel; James Hawker & Co Ltd, wine merchant; Moorland Guesthouse;
Duke of Cornwall hotel; Glenholt holiday park and many more.
