Today was an exciting day in the ongoing history of the Clock House Museum. The first 100 or so boxes of packed collection objects were moved out and transported to the new storage facility across town, ahead of the building renovations later this year. Once the collection inventory was completed in late 2024, a range of safeguards needed to be established to ensure the collection move could happen smoothly and correctly – and remember, 'museum years' are the opposite of dog years so things seem to move more slowly! TDC continues to be actively dedicated to ensure the move is carried out exactly to plan and it's taken until now to get everything in place. So keep a look out for over the next few weeks for new Clock House activities – and pop in for a look if you'd like an update on progress!

As winter creeps in and the work in the Clock House Museum continues – check out this call for creative expression from The Ramsgate Recorder. We can't wait to see your sparks of inspiration!

Feeling the artistic spark with the changing weather? Send us your creative writing pieces for our upcoming winter edition!

Each edition, we choose a theme inspired by Ramsgate and welcome all forms of written expression. Whether it’s prose, poetry, dialogue, journal entries, a snippet of a novel, or a complete short story, we want to read it all.

This winter, our theme is “The Clock House”, drawing inspiration from the ongoing renovations at Ramsgate’s historic harbour Clock House (as featured in our latest issue).

Submit your piece, up to 500 words, to [email protected] with the subject line “Creative Writing” by the deadline of October 4, 2024.

EXHIBITION OPENING! Friday September 6. 'Ramsgate's Harbour' is a new exhibition and a part of the Heritage Open Days celebrations – England’s largest festival of history and culture. We have used objects from the Clock House Museum's maritime collection to tell stories about Ramsgate and the harbour. The museum building is closed for renovation so the exhibition will run in Arch 6, Military Road. Come down and celebrate our heritage!
