I was awarded some funding from Cornwall this year.
Me and Sarah mc Andrew worked with a local school to run Nonsense character and worldbuilding sessions for wellbeing.

We explored what makes and defines a character, how to create new types of characters using literary nonsense prompts, metamorphasis, worldbuilding and paper prototyping.

It was fabulously fun.

The young people really pulled the stops out and created some fantastic work.

Here is a video of the VR gallery space where a lot of their work is on show.

Funded by in collaboration with and supported by wellbeing and .

Thank you for this brilliant opportunity to work with these gifted young minds!

A look at the studio this week.

1. This is based on dozmary pool.
I intend it invert the light/dark areas on this image in its final state.
I find when I paint with light, that as I scrape back the glazed upper layers, it is good to have the opposite tones undrrneath to show through and add to the glow effect.

2. Based on a ruin in unity woods near my home.
I have always loved the mysteriousness of this place and intend to go there sketching one afternoon this week. to further this image.

I am really liking this new palette so am restricting myself to these green and blue shades, some pale pinks, ochres and browns, with a very dark off black darkest blue-brown tone.

I am also using a technique my old head of school reccomended, to mix a little of one shade with all the colour tints to create a harmonious feel.

3. I am unsure where this painting is going. It is painting itself, like making pictures from the clouds. But I'm enjoying these gold/green tones.

4. This will be grassy clifftop and mining stacks.
I love the mysteriousness of these places on a misty day. When the mist sits in the coves against the dark cliffs, and the long grass tips are lit by the sun thats just breaking through..

Looking back at my last series, 'These Hidden Places" as I seek to look ahead to my next project this week in the suddio.

I always feel its helpful to look back in order to look forward.

I am reassessing my palettes, the effects I am trying to create and what it is I am really hoping to capture in my work.

Looking ahead now, at the Sublime, I'm considering the intangible moments when the spaces we see in the natural world open up to us in all their glory. The vastness or the sccretevness of forms in spaces.
