CARAD, (Community Arts Rhayader And District,) is an independent charity working in the field of arts and heritage. It gives people in Mid-Wales the chance to involve themselves in artistic expression and interpretation, to share experiences and to tell their personal stories in different ways. People who live in this beautiful area have a strong sense of place and community: oral and folk history are part of everyday conversations, and the environment an integral part of everyday work.

We had a lovely relaxed time meeting up for Crafternoons today. Some of us made Kokeshi inspired dolls with tiny boats for them to travel in, some made glass jar lanterns and some had a go at die-cut bookmarks. It was very enjoyable to see everyone and have a chat and a cuppa. Next month's Crafternoon on the 7th July will be the last one until we start up again after the summer.

We have just had a visit from David Lewis Brown, author of the excellent 'Elan Valley Clearance'. He came with family from England and Australia and left us a lovely review. We took his photo along with Emmeline Thrower and volunteer Sandra Betty. Saturday is a 'Pay what you can day' so come along and see why they loved it - and go home with his book!
