Museum Closed – Wednesday 7th October

Please note that Mevagissey Museum will be closed on Wednesday 7th October while we hold a special thank-you event for our wonderful team of volunteers.

Our museum simply couldn’t run without the time, enthusiasm and dedication they give throughout the year, so this is our chance to say a very well-deserved thank you!

We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

Every harbour has a story. Mevagissey has hundreds of them.

This Tuesday at 2pm, join the Mevagissey Museum Walking Harbour Tour and discover the people, events and everyday life that have shaped our harbour over the generations.

For around an hour, one of our museum guides will take you around the harbour, sharing fascinating pieces of local history and pointing out details that are easily missed when you’re simply passing by.

You might be surprised by just how much history is packed into such a small Cornish harbour.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Why would Pears Soap have a place in Mevagissey Museum?

There’s a story behind it, just as there is behind so many of the objects waiting to be discovered inside.

Step through our doors and take an adventure back through the centuries. Discover the lives of the fishermen and families who called Mevagissey home, the boats that sailed from our harbour, the dangers faced at sea and the everyday objects that can tell some very unexpected stories.

But history isn’t just for grown-ups…

Young adventurers can take on our Pirate Hunt and search the museum for hidden clues. Or choose our Teddy Bear Hunt and see who they can find hiding amongst the exhibits.

And when you think you've discovered Mevagissey's secrets inside…

How well do you really know Mevagissey?

Behind the harbour we see today are centuries of stories, of fishing, families, industry and village life.

This Tuesday at 2pm, join us for the Mevagissey Museum Harbour Tour and discover some of the fascinating history hiding around our harbour.

It’s not just about dates and buildings. It’s about the people who lived and worked here, the stories they left behind, and seeing familiar parts of Mevagissey in a completely different way.

The walk lasts around an hour, costs £5 for adults with children free, and includes admission to the museum.

⚠️ BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL

Our tours have become very popular and, with only 8 places available on each tour, they can book up very quickly. Please book your place at the museum in advance to avoid disappointment.

We’ve been incredibly fortunate to receive some lovely reviews recently on Facebook, Google and Tripadvisor, and we wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has taken the time to leave one.

We genuinely love reading them.

“The passionate volunteers who staff the museum are amazing and truly bring the many objects and photos to life.”

We have been very kindly donated free of charge five copies of a book, Mevagissey: A Double-Take of an Ancient, Thriving Heart. A beautiful limited-edition photographic book by local photographer and author Adrian Shaw.

Adrian's work captures Mevagissey in a wonderfully unusual way, combining two individual scenes in-camera to create images of the village that are both familiar and completely different.

So if you'd like to own something rather special while supporting the Museum at the same time, pop in and have a look. We have just five copies available, and once they're gone, they're gone.

A huge thank you to Adrian for this incredibly generous gift and for his continued support of Mevagissey Museum.
