Mevagissey Museum News
Here we are into March and the museum will be opening on the 29th March for the 2026 season. We have been busy during the winter months having some remedial work to the first floor and new carpet tiles laid. As you are reading this we are getting the museum ready with a deep winter clean, and getting the displays back in place after the work.
Didge has been out in the district gathering the history of St Ewe, copying, photographing and talking to St. Ewe parishioners, we will be adding this to the museums amazing archive and will let you know when these items are available to view. We would like to thank all the people who have kindly given items, photographs etc for this project, and if you have anything you think may add to the history of St. Ewe and area please contact Didge on the number below.
The museum is always looking for volunteers to keep it open from April to October, so if you think this is something you could help us with and spare two and a half hours a week for a shift please contact Didge on 07534595791 or email: [email protected] we are always ready to welcome you into our great team of very friendly volunteers. The museum could not open every day without them, please help if you can to keep this great attraction open for visitors and locals.

The Mevagissey Museum is getting ready for the 2026 season. W
We will be opening at the end of March and as always we rely on our dedicated volunteers to open the museum daily from 11.00am to 4.00pm. If you would like to join our team this year please get in touch with Didge on 07534595791 or email: [email protected]. We will be pleased to chat to you about any questions you may have but without our volunteers the museum cannot open. If you can spare a couple of hours a week to keep this fantastic asset of Mevagissey and the surrounding area open we would love to welcome you to our team.
We are having some improvements taking place in February to replace the carpet on the first floor. This is adding to all the work carried out last year to the new entrance and reception which has been a great addition to the welcoming feel the visitor gets when entering the museum.
We will be holding a meeting at the beginning of March to invite anyone interested in finding out more about being a volunteer and will have more details in the March magazine and on social media with date and time.
If you want any information about the museum or have any questions regarding the museum please contact the details listed above. We love to speak to people about the museum which is now in its 58th year of opening.

Didge recently attended the St.Ewe Soup’er Saturday on the 10th January to introduce the museum to the residents of St.Ewe and surrounding area. The museum’s title is Mevagissey and District Museum so we are going out to the district this year to gather as much history as we can on Gorran Haven, St.Ewe and Pentewan so we can add to our archive. It was lovely to chat to all the people on Saturday and listen to their stories and see photos they had brought along. We made a good start to our project but we know from listening to everyone that there is more to add so I am returning to the Soup’er Saturday on the 14th February. If you have any photos of how St. Ewe looked in the past, paper clippings of events, anything that happened of interest we would love to see them. If you are happy to bring them along for us to either copy or take photos of on the day, this would be great. We understand that original items are very precious so we are happy to have copy’s for our archive. Or you cann pop them in the comments here or send via messenger I look forward to meeting you all and look forward to adding St.Ewe’s history to our already fantastic archive. Also I would like to add how great the whole event was with some lovely soups and cake. A big thank you to all for putting on such a brilliant local get together.

We are very happy to see the new first escape installed at Mevagissey Museum which was funded by the Community Capacity Fund.
Jane Morgan, Chair of Mevagissey and District Museum commented that the new fire escape ‘looks fabulous and we are now working on the 1st Floor so that we can make full use of the space that we have available, now that we have a new fire escape. We already have events booked in for the 2026 season including a puppet show, history talks, choirs, and tours’.

We would like to wish all at Mevagissey Museum ‘Good Luck’ with their future project.
