This week we welcomed year 9s from penair_school who have chosen art GCSE and KS2 children from Trythall School.

The Penair group worked en plein air and made mini-sketchbooks that recorded what took their interest in the ‘Foxgloves’ exhibition.

Trythall focused on biodiversity and worked together to produce their own ‘Bioblitz’ art looking at species of plants and animals in the gallery meadow…

Today we welcomed the St Just and District Twinning Association and the Bretagne contingent from Huelgoat that they are currently hosting.

Mayor Robert Chadder opened the reception with a speech of cross-Channel friendship, followed by Sophie from the Twinning Association. Kurt Jackson Contemporary Artist, Caroline Jackson and Jackson Foundation Manager Zinzi Tucker then presented the framed limited edition print 'A Bit of Cornwall' to Huelgoat Town Hall.

It was a lovely event well attended by members of our local community and representatives of St.Just-in-Penwith Town Council - Deputy Mayor Fynn Tucker (and Jackson foundation Manager), Councillor Doug Luxford, Councillor Peter Casley and Councillor Peter Gardner and Councillor Ian Flindall.

Taking the record for the furthest travelled Cornish School Carbeile Junior School and Fourlanesend Primary travelled all the way from Torpoint to join us in the sunshine…

In the Foxgloves exhibition the children looked closely at Kurt Jackson’s Bioblitz paintings, which celebrate the biodiversity linked to one particular place or species. From this starting point they took to the meadow, investigated the different species found there and created their own collaborative Bioblitz of the site - we even managed to spot some tiny micro-moth eggs on the flower of a red campion! Our resident Devon Red cows couldn’t resist joining the fun either (whilst doing a marvellous job of tending the meadow’s biodiversity)!

Today marks Sir David Attenborough's 100th Birthday!

During his extraordinary life, Attenborough has been a pioneer in many fields. We all know and love him for his groundbreaking nature documentaries, but did you know that Attenborough was an early Controller of BBC2, which before his arrival was struggling to find its audience until he shook up the schedule to differentiate the channel from its rivals, shining its focus to champion music, the arts, entertainment, archaeology, experimental comedy, travel etc.

During his time at the channel David Attenborough commissioned programmes such as Monty Python's Flying Circus, The Old Grey Whistle Test, The Ascent of Man and Call My Bluff, helping to define the identity of BBC2 (and in a way, Britain) for decades.

Sir David has become a passionate and outspoken environmental campaigner and through the soft power of his peerless television programmes has informed, educated, entertained and inspired us for the last 70 years.

"So, a big happy birthday to Sir David Attenborough!

"He has been such an inspiration to ourselves as a torch bearer for the natural world and conservation.

"I only met him once (mid-stage at Glastonbury after drawing him in front of an audience of many tens of thousands), but we have followed his broadcasts and focus throughout our lives with avid interest.

"He was one of the reasons many choose a path immersed in nature and the environment; that humility, curiosity and charm, a good bloke.

"Many happy returns David, from Kurt and Caroline and everyone at the Jackson Foundation." - Kurt Jackson Contemporary Artist

Today, Jen and Rob collected our donation for a fundraiser in support of Cornwall Air Ambulance.

'George is Out There Surfing in that Somewhere' is a
limited edition, handmade screen print created for Jackson's 2016 exhibition 'Obsession: Following the Surfer'.

This piece will be one of the lots auctioned off by Mawes Classic Car Festival in aid of the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust.

Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust provides critical care to seriously sick and injured people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Responding to over 1,000 missions annually, their crew is there at a critical time when every second matters. Operating with no direct government support towards running costs, they rely on the generosity of people like you to keep flying 365 days a year.

Taking to the skies in 1987, Cornwall Air Ambulance was the very first air ambulance in the UK. They have since completed more than 32,000 missions, with that number increasing every day. Given the county’s isolated beaches, rural settlements and challenging road networks, their service is vital to the residents that live here, and the tourists that visit Cornwall.
