To help nature thrive, we're letting it grow!

This means certain areas across campus won't be mown over the next few months.

By letting things grow, we're providing food and habitat for our wonderful pollinators and other insects, who benefit from areas going wild. This doesn’t just support pollinators; we can also help store carbon and reduce pollution by reducing the amount we mow.

Whilst some spaces will be filled with pretty wildflowers, other may instead have lots of other plants, such as grasses, growing instead. All of which are massively beneficial in supporting our wildlife.

With around 97% of wildflower meadows lost since 1930, we know the importance of letting it grow. Especially in a city such as Salford.
If you’re out and about on campus, why not take a closer look to see what you can find wandering around the no mow spaces.

You can also help support nature by letting it grow. Is there a space in your garden you can leave growing wild to help nature thrive?

Today we bid farewell to our Graduate Sustainability Communications and Engagement Officer.

During his time on our team Sam Thom has helped engage staff and students in sustainability at the University and beyond.
Having completed a BSc in Marine Biology in our School of Science, Engineering and Environment before joining us, Sam expanded his understanding of sustainability and recognised the importance of communication and engagement in taking action.

After building skills in sustainability education, digital communications, event planning and hosting, we’re looking forward to seeing what Sam goes on to do next.
