🎨 A MASTERPIECE RETURNS HOME! 🖼️✨

Have you been to The Salisbury Museum to see this yet? For the first time in over 200 years, John Constable’s hidden masterpiece, 'A View of Salisbury from Harnham', is back on public display in Salisbury!

Dating back to the early 1820s, this incredible oil painting has spent decades tucked away in a private collection. Now, it’s returned to the city on loan until 2030 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the artist's birth. 🎉

You can find it hanging beautifully in the Salisbury Gallery.

What makes it extra special? Leading art experts believe this stunning 12” x 20” canvas is actually Constable's original work, while the near-identical version sitting in the world-famous Louvre Museum in Paris is a copy he painted later! 🤯🇫🇷

Did you know this portrait of Lytton Strachey by Henry Lamb hides two famous Victorians in the background?

👀 Look closely and you'll spot Dr Thomas Arnold and Florence Nightingale – characters from Strachey's bestselling ‘Eminent Victorians.’

A clever detail: Henry Lamb added them after the book was published in 1918, even though he'd painted Strachey four years earlier.

See this remarkable Tate loan in our ‘Bloomsbury in Wiltshire’ exhibition – on until 27 September 2026.

LGBTQ+ THEMED TOUR:
Explore the Bloomsbury in Wiltshire exhibition and discover the complex loves that shocked 1920s society but shaped modern LGBTQ+ history. Learn about local heroes too: Dorothy Lawrence, who disguised herself as a male soldier to reach WWI's front lines, and Ian Gleed, the gay RAF pilot who fought in the Battle of Britain.
