Natural History Creative Season at Salisbury Museum.
This autumn we have a series of well-being workshops inspired by nature!

Nature Journalling: Create your own nature journal this November 🌿 Inspired by artists and scientists throughout history, you'll explore the local environment, collect natural materials, and experiment with different media. Led by artist James Aldridge. 📅 Wed 11 Nov, 10am–3pm

Botanical Pottery: Hand-build a ceramic jug inspired by our collection, then decorate with seasonal leaves and seed heads 🍂 Choose your glaze and we'll fire it for you. Led by ceramic artist Tania Ware. 📅 Sat 21 Nov, 10am–3pm

Botanical Painting: Learn watercolour and botanical painting techniques with local artist Sally Pond, using seasonal subjects. 📅 Mon 30 Nov, 10am–3pm

💷 Per workshop: £25 members / £30 non-members

🎨 We're delighted to announce Sophie Bartlett's solo exhibition – opening TODAY!

Sophie won the inaugural Landscape Open at Salisbury Museum in 2025, and her prize was the chance to exhibit with us. Now her stunning work is on display in our upstairs gallery.

Since winning, Sophie has been capturing the beauty of Wiltshire and Hampshire's downlands across the seasons.

Her exhibition perfectly complements our Landscape Open 2026 exhibition (opening 17 October). Come and see her work – it's stunning! 🌄✨

Looking for a new creative adventure this winter? Our winter creative courses are now open for booking!

Join us for a series of free inspiring 10-week creative courses designed to bring people together through the arts, culture, nature, and creativity across Salisbury and the surrounding areas.

Step outside and discover the quiet wonder of winter with Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and artist Jo Beal - Artist. Through playful drawing, expressive mark-making, art journaling, and collage, you'll explore the rich textures, colours, folklore, and hidden beauty of the season while creating your own personal visual journal inspired by the natural world.

You can also explore the question ‘What lights you up?’ with ArtCare UK, The Salisbury Museum and artist Caroline Rudge, Artist. Using creative writing and poetry prompts we will make zines, play with paint, printmaking and collage, explore cyanotype and silhouettes; and build 3D illuminated shadow boxes reflecting on the things in our lives that make us feel lit up and how we can use creativity to support our wellbeing.

Courses are open to adults aged 20+ living within the SP1–SP5 area. All materials and refreshments are provided, and no previous experience is needed just an openness to learning something new and a willingness to try new activities.

We're celebrating – Arts Council England has announced nine more museums have achieved Designated Status, and we've been part of this prestigious scheme since the very beginning! 🌟
The Salisbury Museum received our Designated Status in 1998, making us one of only 173 institutions in the UK with this recognition.
Our designation celebrates the international significance of our archaeology collection 🏺, including the Amesbury Archer 🏹 and Stonehenge artefacts 🪨, as well as for our remarkable medieval Drainage Collection 💧.
That's something to be genuinely proud of. 💙 Every visit supports world-class heritage care. 🎭
