The little things often tell the biggest story. These microvertebrate remains are part of our work processing the fossils found along side our dinosaurs. They show us the fish, sharks, lizards, mammals, and a whole host of other small creatures that lived amongst the dinosaurs, and couldn’t be found without painstaking work processing the grams of fossils found in tens of kilos of rock.

This tooth comes from Cretolamna, an Upper Cretaceous shark. The family it belongs to, the otodontidae, are some of the largest sharks to have lived, whilst now extinct, they would have been apex predators of the Cretaceous seas.

These beautiful calcite crystals were spotted on our recent walk at Alum Bay. The flowstone growths formed in landslides, as ground waters percolated through limestones, dissolving and reprecipitating the minerals as these fantastic growths.
