It is with great sadness to tell you that my lovely mother Eve and friend to many passed away on Monday 2nd March. She was much loved by her large family-me, my brother Jonathan, our late sister Caroline, her nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Her circle of friends was wide as were her interests, but her love of nature, art and literature and of course family dominated her long life. She spent her early years studying fine art at St Martins and continued to paint throughout her life almost to the end. She spent many happy hours at the Pottery and her beautifully decorated bird mugs were an instant hit! Eve’s view of the world was one of great compassion and humanity. She was a peace lover and wrote numerous letters to prisoners of conscience through Amnesty International. As an artist she had great skills and was one of the old school painters where anatomy and fine observation mattered. She had an almost photographic memory for detail as well as amazing recall of places and people she met along her life’s journey. As a person she was thoughtful and loving, always having time for children and grandchildren and friends nurturing them with painterly and observational skills. During the second half of her life she spent years writing semi autobiographical and historical novels as well as poetry too. She often hid away for weeks at a time whilst she researched and corrected endless drafts! She was a fabulous mother, quirky with a very ‘Eve’ view of the world but profoundly humaine and compassionate. She wasn’t interested in wealth but wanted to share her view of the world with those that would listen. She was the world’s worst joke teller, usually forgetting the punch line which would result in embarrassed silence followed by hysterical laughter! How lucky I have been to have had so many years to enjoy her company, to share her artistry and her early love of music (she played the cello like her mother). I will miss her lovely smile, warm soft hands, her observational skills and love of nature which we shared on many walks. Rest in peace lovely Mum ###
