📣 We're conducting some research about visitor motivations, leisure time and future opportunities as part of the Embrace Abbeydale project.

Embrace Abbeydale is a two-year project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, to make a series of improvements at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet.

We’d like to hear from both visitors and non-visitors, particularly if you live in the area around Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet but anyone is welcome to complete the short survey.

Heads-up everyone, as winter approaches and we start to wrap up warmly, so does the Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet! You have until Sun 2 Nov to visit before the Hamlet's annual winter closure. This means you still have time to visit over half term - and we can confirm it's a beautiful place to spot the signs of autumn! 🍂

Visiting Joni at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet at the start of this week? Please be aware that the lower car park will be closed on Mon 15 and Tue 16 Sep while we carry out work as part Embrace Abbeydale programme of improvements at the Hamlet, generously supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and thanks to National Lottery players.

Improvements include initial work to improve drainage and access to the lower car park, adding new marking to the existing car park and introducing fencing next to the river. The lower car park will reopen from Wednesday – in the meantime, free on-road parking is available on Abbeydale Road South, just a couple of minutes walk from the Hamlet. As a courtesy to our neighbours, please avoid parking on the residential roads opposite the Hamlet as this can block access, particularly for larger vehicles and the Emergency Services.

Whoop! Smiles all around as our wonderful museum volunteers rolled out the first guided tours of Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet this weekend!

The topic of this tour was Abbeydale After Industry and covered stories about war-time steel-making, bomb damage and the years of campaigning that saved the site from demolition in the 1960s!

Pop along to delve deeper into the history of the Hamlet with our friendly volunteer guides. Each day when the museum is open, we’ll be running two 20-minute tours, at 11.30am and 2pm, subject to availability. There’s no need to pre-book – just speak to a member of staff to sign up on the day. You’ll see signage on entry explaining what the topic is for that day.

Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet is closed on Sun 3 Aug due to staff illness, we're sorry if you were hoping to visit today. The Art at Abbeydale session at 1.30pm is able to go ahead as planned.
