Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery allows you and the family to experience over 650 million years of Shropshire's rich history. The museum houses Stop.

Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery is owned and operated by Shropshire Council. Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery is located in the 19th century Music Hall and 13th century Vaughan's Mansion, a Grade II* listed medieval merchant's house in the heart of the town. There are five permanent galleries of Shrewsbury and Shropshire history: Roman, Medieval, Tudor, Stuart and Shropshire Gallery and two galleries for temporary exhibitions. Cafe, a Visitor Information Centre and a Museum Shop where tickets for our popular Guided Tours and Events can be purchased from. The shop also offers a wide variety of gifts from the Shropshire county. The Museum is accessible throughout the building.

Now that the Shropshire Historical Pageant Costume exhibition is open in Ludlow, we are receiving lots of wonderful images and memories about the event,

One of the many highlights is this photo of a local resident's grandmother who took part.

To help the resident discover more about their grandmother's part, we cross checked her name with the programme and discovered that she performed in Episode VI- Milton’s Comus performance, as a Guest of Lord and Lady Bridgewater.

We think she looks very regal in this photo and what a great headdress she is wearing.

This is what makes working with the collections so much fun and informative for researchers and local residents alike.

Now another element of a local family's history has been preserved for ever and it is able to take it’s place in the annals of history alongside everyone else who took part in the pageant way back in 1934!

Rooted in Recovery brings together art, nature and lived experience of mental health to explore recovery, resilience and belonging.

Created through a woodland-based art psychotherapy programme, this free exhibition is moving, informative and inspirational.

Our curator at the Shropshire Museums Collections Centre in Ludlow has been working with a researcher looking at our eighteenth century stays- these are a precursor of corsets. We we have some really interesting examples in the collection.

The researcher has been measuring them and took a pattern from one of them so she can replicate it.

The researcher is studying how the sizes of these stays vary through time- from fashion and also body size and has been able to share her expertise with our curator which has enable us to update our records about these amazing objects.

This is another example of how we use our reserve collections to help increase knowledge and understanding of different subjects.

The image show a French silk stay made from recycled patches of fabric- this has reeds as the bones or stiffening within it- probably taken from a local marsh
