Today it's pretty ☀️🌡️, so make sure you keep hydrated 💦.
💧Did you know that lifeboats on ships like the Titanic and Mauretania carried these lifeboat water dippers which were designed to help ration drinking water aboard a lifeboat.
🚰 Each boat had enough potable water so that each person could have about 1.5l, which had to last for as long as the boat was in trouble.

❓What is the oldest (man-made) artefact on display at SeaCity? It's probably one of our wonderful palaeolithic hand axes.
🏺Hand axes like this were made and used throughout the entire world, but it is reckoned that the first humans came to what would be Britain about 900,000 years ago. By around 500,000 years ago, hunting nomads came along the wide Solent River valley (now under the sea), following herds of animals. Stone tools like these are among the few traces left behind.
🗺️You'll find our hand axes in our Gateway to the World gallery, along with lots of other fantastic objects that help share the story of Southampton (and beyond).
