Many of you will know that the East Lancashire Railway is home to the last surviving Class 504 electric unit, which once ran on the Bury / Manchester line, prior to Metrolink replacing the system.
The unit has had some work done on it over the years, but due to its storage position on the ELR, and also the loss of some volunteers, progress has halted.
We believe that the 504 unit should be preserved for future generations, as its a Bury engine, and also as its the last survivor of the class.
We are now looking at volunteers to join the small group to initially cosmetically restore it, after which it may go on display in a more accessible position.
If you would like to get involved, then please contact Simon Thomas at [email protected], who will be very glad of any help.
Many thanks, Andy Hardman, Head of T&RS, East Lancashire Railway
