We are now open as usual, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10.00am to 4.00pm. We do not have card facilities so please bring a fiver for admission or £2.50 for children and a family entry of £12.50.

So sorry if you tried to visit on 30th May,

The good news is the scaffold is coming down as I type, so when you do visit it will be a completely clear building, and hopefully a completely weather proof one as well.

Sorry I forgot to mention our
10th Anniversary.
Unbelievable as it may seem, it's been 10 years since we opened our museum. We wanted to create a wonderful experience when you walked through the doors to our museum of technology. And reading our reviews from over the passed 10 years we have succeeded. Memories will be triggered and you can even watch demonstrations of equipment long gone, but not forgotten. We have managed to keep our entrance fee the same for 10 years and as our ancestors did before us, we too only accept cash.

At long last work has started (and lets pray it does work) to fix the leaking walls. After a lot of investigation rain water is suspected as coming through the parapet walls at both ends of the main wing. We were warned by our bricklayer that parapet walls would be a problem, (we should have taken his advice), but the planning officer was adamant that the design of our museum should look like a 200 year old Fen Barn!!! He even insisted on the bricks that were used, and they have turned out to be so porous you could use them as sponges and we’ve had to spray waterproofing stuff all over them. This ongoing problem has caused many sleepless nights and a great deal of money to fix, we can only pray that when the next strong easterly winds blow and the rain falls, the museum’s new lead raincoat will keep the inside walls nice and dry.
This work will be done and dusted well before the museum opens on 28th May.

A quick update, the first stage of fixing the leaking roof has been completed, it involved taking out a whole row of bricks, most of which got smashed, thank goodness we had replacements, then a whole new dampproof section had to be inserted, bricks reinstated and Bobs your uncle. Now we need an East wind and pouring rain to test it !!!

Trigger Warning...these picture are very depressing, however the lead work is completed with just a bit of cementing to do, so that's good news. But the walls and ceiling are a different matter, it will take ages for them to dry out before we can tackle them. 😩

Storm Chandra has done enormous damage to the West Country and our hearts go out to all those affected. Unfortunately it has got to us too, the scaffolding you see in the photo is to allow the roofers access to the same bit of roof which has been giving us problems since January 2024. The rain water has found its way in and has caused a steady drip and no end of damage to the walls, all the medals, trophies and pictures have been stripped from the walls and we can only pray that they dry out in time for our May opening. The fact that it’s bit of flat roof between the main wing and the east wing, (I know bad design and bad building regs.) means that the combination of driving rain plus easterly winds reaching 40 – 50 miles an hour hammering onto the parapet wall, plus bricks which we were forced to use by the Local Planning Authority that are so porous you could use them as a sponge, it’s a disaster waiting to happen….and it has. Hopefully I’ll post some cheerier news when it’s fixed. P.S. I’ve just goggled Parapet Wall and I quote, “Water Management: Prone to dampness because they are exposed on multiple sides. Proper design requires capping stones, drip grooves, and damp-proof courses to prevent water ingress”. I rest my case Mr. Designer.
