The building has played a very special part in the history of Stirling since its founding in 1874. Established by the bequest of artist Thomas Stuart Smith (1815-1869), it was built on land supplied by the Burgh of Stirling. Today, The Smith functions as a gallery, museum, and cultural centre for the Stirling area. It serves as the repository for the historical artefacts and paintings of Stirlings

hire, while also offering exhibition opportunities for contemporary artists. The Smith is a much-treasured resource in our community, valued for its lecture theatre, café, and biodiversity garden as well as exhibitions.

NEW TALK!

Talks at The Smith | Wed 27th May | Lecture Theatre | 2PM

These City Walls, by Dr Murray Cook

Don't miss Dr Murray Cook's fascinating talk about Stirling's city walls, which have never been recorded.

Their construction is often dismissed as a panicked response to Scottish defeat at the Battle of Pinkie in 1547, the key battle of Henry VIIIth's 'rough wooing' of Scotland to force the infant Mary, Queen of Scots to marry his son.

Research led by Dr Cook and Dominic Farrugia suggests the walls are older, better preserved, and more significant than previously thought.

Admission: Payment in cash or card at the door.
Full price £5, Students £3.
Talk starts at 2pm, doors open at 1.30pm.

NEW EXHIBITION - SHARED PERSPECTIVES

We are delighted to present a curated selection of photographic works by current Photography students at Forth Valley College.

Developed in collaboration with The Smith, the exhibition engages with themes of memory, place, and perception, situating student practice within a broader contemporary photographic context.

Bringing together work from across different levels of study, the exhibition highlights a range of approaches to image-making, united by a shared exploration of visual and emotional experience.
