This fantastic painting of Etruria in 1942 by Mining Engineer C W Brown. Arthur Berry thought of CW as the Potteries very own primitive artist akin to Cornwall's Alfred Wallace. The museum as a massive collection gifted by the family, a very special and unique collection of working class art.

Currently on display in our Favourite Things exhibition is this striking watercolour and ink painting, Twyfords, Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent, created in 1942 by artist Charles William Brown (1882-1961). It was chosen by Sam Richardson, Collections Registrar, Stoke-on-Trent Museums.

“I really like the colourful nature of CW Brown’s work. In this industrial scene he mixes a fairly precise illustrative style for the factory buildings together with a much looser impressionistic approach for the sky.”

Please note that access to the museum will be via the café entrance by the Spitfire Gallery.
