Edinburgh printmaker Nicky Sanderson draws inspiration from geography, geology and archaeology, creating works that are richly connected to the landscape, history and wildlife of Scotland.

Through printmaking, travel and research, her practice explores the stories held within the land itself.
Most notably in the repurposed marine charts that Nicky has screen printed with the area's local flora and fauna.
We have 3 available in the gallery, as well as a selection of framed and unframed screen prints featuring crabs, jellyfish and seaweeds that capture the detail and intricacies of our marine life.

Alongside her studio work, Nicky also leads creative tours and workshops, combining art, landscape and discovery in a uniquely engaging way.

Works can be viewed online at www.eionstewartfineart.com or in person Tue-Fri 10AM - 5PM, and Sat 10AM - 4PM.

'Linked by Ink' runs until 13th June.

A few moments from the framing bench.
Set of 6 frames moving through their final stages (it was actually 8 frames but 2 were completely different and didn’t fit with the neat geometry of my 1st image 😝)

*FRIDAY FEATURE*

'Hullscapes' are a novel concept by West Lothian artist Paul Boyle.

These works, transform details of boat hulls in dry dock into poetic and evocative landscapes. At a glance they appear as sweeping seascapes or coastal scenes, yet they are in fact fragments of paint, rust and repair - abstract surfaces mainly reimagined as lyrical visions of the sea.

The Hullscapes embody a sense of wabi-sabi: beauty found in imperfection, weathering, and repair. They reflect the idea that objects carry the imprint of their environment—the sea leaving its mark on each vessel. Paul’s goal is not to document the boats themselves, but to reveal their surfaces as landscapes of imagination, mood and resonance.

They have been an incredibly popular addition to the current exhibition and have led to many interesting conversations with visitors, as well as two sales in the same day!
Best viewed in person, with a further selection of unframed Hullscapes in our browsers, the gallery is open tomorrow 10AM - 4PM, and 10AM - 5PM Tues-Fri.

As well as our stunning collection of framed artworks on the gallery walls, all of our current artists have provided a wonderful collection of unframed pieces for our browsers.

These gorgeous landscape miniatures are by Sarah Ross-Thompson. At just 25 x 25cm, they'd make a perfect gift for either yourself, or someone special. ❤️

Newly completed simple hand-finished frame for Jenny Watt-Colbeck using Artglass 70, a remarkably low-reflection glass that allows the artwork to be seen with far greater clarity and depth.
One of those framing decisions that completely changes how a piece is experienced in a space.

This is not a photograph.

Gregory Moore’s etchings have become one of the revelations of our current exhibition. His works repeatedly stop visitors in their tracks through their subtlety and precision.

‘Does it Make a Sound?’ has drawn attention from viewers astonished by the delicacy of tone, detail, and atmosphere achieved through the printmaking process.

One of the most technically demanding artistic processes, etching requires patience, control, and years of mastery.
