Mill Tye Gallery

Mill Tye Gallery Mill Tye is a small, independent gallery. It’s housed in a beautiful brick-built mill. One that’s been converted into a light, airy studio-exhibition space.

One with spectacular views across the river Stour and water meadows. Mill Tye Gallery and Art Centre is set by the idyllic River Stour in Great Cornard, just outside the centre of the historic market town of Sudbury, Suffolk. The historic mill building has spectacular views across the river Stour and water meadows for several miles beyond. Here at Mill Tye Gallery, we will host monthly exhibitions

of local contemporary artists, printmakers, sculptors and potters. Our aim is to celebrate new talent and provide a platform for undiscovered artists from across the region. The mill building also houses a contemporary open space, which lends itself well to courses, art classes and a photographic studio and is available for hire. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the Stour Valley has been infamously portrayed by artists John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough, and as such, the area is renowned as a hub for talented creatives.

If Rowan handed you one of these little invitations over the past few months, this is your reminder…

A Field Study: documenting four seasons opens at Mill Tye Gallery next weekend.
Over the last year, Rowan Collinson has documented a single field through the changing seasons, creating a thoughtful and beautifully observed series of photographs that explore landscape, time and our relationship with the natural world. As a young emerging artist, opportunities to share work, meet visitors and hear people's responses are incredibly valuable.

We'd love you to come along, see the exhibition and support Rowan at this exciting stage in her artistic journey.

Preview Day: Saturday 6 June from 10:30am–6pm
Drop in at any time throughout the day and meet Rowan in the gallery.

What a fantastic day we had at Mill Tye Gallery for our recent People & Portraits workshop with photographer Roj Whitelock.

Held in our first-floor studio overlooking the Mill pond, the workshop brought together a brilliant group of photographers eager to explore the art of natural light portraiture in a supportive and creative environment.

Fresh from having his portrait Phil selected for the prestigious Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize 2025 at the National Portrait Gallery, Roj shared his expert knowledge of portrait photography, guiding participants through lighting, exposure, composition and working confidently with a live model.

It was wonderful to see everyone experimenting, sharing ideas and growing in confidence throughout the day.

A huge thank you to our beautiful model Maisie Lane for her professionalism, patience and warmth, and to everyone who joined us and made the workshop such an inspiring experience.

We hope to welcome you all back to Mill Tye Gallery for another workshop soon.
