⭐ARTIST SPOTLIGHT⭐

Juliet West is one of our fab Purbeck based painters, creating landscapes full of texture and atmosphere, often using metal foils to enhance details of her designs.

Inspired by the beauty of the Purbeck coastline, and particularly Swanage her current work seeks to capture the landscape in both abstract and representational ways.
She aims to create work that, although recognisable, gives the viewer more of an impression of the place as well as imparting a sense of the handcrafted.

⭐ARTIST SPOTLIGHT⭐

Julia Hallam is one of our fabulous jewellers, creating unique pieces from silver and sea glass inspired by the beaches, sea and its varied and wonderous inhabitants.
Jules works full time creating jewellery as well as teaching others the art of traditional silversmithing in her home workshop in Dorset. When Jules isn't making or teaching she is still often found at the beach, in, on and near the water with her family and dogs!

We're the organic forms and vibrant colours, and they pair wonderfully with the rustic wood lamp bases we have in too.

🔎Location inspiration... Studland 🔎

Today we're looking at Studland, which is known to many for it's lovely beach. 4 miles of beach in fact, but it's actually an incredibly interesting place on many fronts.

In 1944, Studland was used to host Exercise Smash, a full scale dress rehearsal for the allied invasion of Europe. Many lessons were learned here and had a direct impact on the success of the D-Day landings.
It is where the aristocratic Bankes family spent their summer, the same family that once owned Corfe Castle and Kingston Lacy before they were bequeathed to the National Trust.
It is also home to sand dunes, which I had a lot of fun playing in as a child. Held in place by the beautiful marram grass, the sand that has blown in and been deposited on the Studland peninsula has become a habitat for many species of birds and reptiles.
