It’s 1983, you’re 8 years old, and your teacher has wheeled the computer trolley into the classroom, ready for you and your classmates to take turns on the BBC Model B. Was there anything better?
Granny’s Garden was a popular adventure game in which a series of puzzles stood between you, the valiant adventurer, and the six missing royal children. By today’s standards, it may seem simplistic. Yet with little prior exposure to computer technology, schoolchildren across the UK were captivated. For many, it was their first introduction to the microcomputer.
Some might still remember that distinctive intro music from the SN76489AN sound chip … or the sheer dread of being caught by the witch when you least expected it. 😄🧙♀️
You can play Granny’s Garden at the Museum of Computing on a real BBC Micro, along with many other classics.
