A beautifully executed trompe-l’œil piece that makes me turn my head every time I walk past. A mixture of classic and whimsy! I adore this, and it needs the perfect home!

A little one from the bench today.

This piece is one of three 1990s aboriginal artworks painted directly onto bark and it’s every bit as delicate as it sounds!
Because of that, it needed a frame with a bit of character rather than something too clean or modern.

So I made a special finish to go with it.

It’s not something every job calls for, but it’s always a pleasure when there’s a chance to get a bit creative with a frame.

Pretty pleased with how this one turned out.

What do you think?

All three of these bark paintings are available at the gallery, all framed with the same custom finish.

One of the odd things about this place is how often coincidences happen.

Over the course of one morning, two stunning rocking horses arrived from two different local families.

Meet Mistletoe and Dobbin.

Now both together in the shop, looking rather like they’ve just bumped into an old friend.

They are lovely examples of J. Collinson & Sons rocking horses, still with their original leatherwork and horsehair tails intact. Like most horses of this age, they show signs of being well loved by their proud young riders over the years.

Both will be restored to perfection before sale.

Right, let’s give this a go!

Social media isn’t really my natural habitat, I’m usually upstairs framing, covered in sawdust and paint and just getting on with the work.

But we’ve got a lot of good work coming through here and it feels a bit daft that none of it gets seen unless you walk through the door.

So this is me attempting to join the modern world.
Nay big promises of constant posting. Nay polished content (that’s Mark’s department) Just the bits I remember to share, such as antiques, odd objects, special finish frames and interesting stories.

If you're already following along, you’ll start seeing a bit more of what goes actually goes on behind the scenes, in an unglamourous and slightly chaotic way.
I’ll try and keep up with it.... No guarantees!

Good afternoon! It’s Rod’s Birthday today and we are celebrating by taking the old man out for the evening! This means we will be closed from now (3PM). We will resume normal hours tomorrow. Many thanks!
