Mick Aston's Young Archaeologists - Somerset Mick Aston’s Young Archaeologists (MAYA) is a branch of the Young Archaeologists’ Club based in Taunton in Somerset. It is for young people aged 8 - 16.

Mick Aston’s Young Archaeologists (MAYA) is a branch of the Young Archaeologists’ Club (YAC) based in and around Taunton in Somerset. It is for young people aged 8 – 16 years who are interested in archaeology. YAC is a national organisation set up by the Council for British Archaeology, and has a network of local clubs across the UK. Our volunteers come from a range of backgrounds; some are professional archaeologists, others work in museums or schools. Many are just interested in archaeology and volunteer with YAC to further their own knowledge and experience. Mick Aston’s Young Archaeologists meet in the morning every second Saturday of each month, usually at the Museum of Somerset in Taunton. Sometimes we run whole-day events in all sorts of different locations, e.g. visiting and investigating archaeological sites and historic places, trying out traditional crafts, taking part in excavations, and lots more.

What a fantastic time we had - and of course the puppy was a hit! However today was two of our members very last session! ☹️

Callum and Freyja have both been with MAYA since they were 8 and now they’re off on their next adventures! We wish you both all the luck in the world 🧡

Hello MAYANS,

In consultation with the National Trust we've made the difficult decision to postpone the visit to Brean Down this Saturday.

Only six people have signed up and almost a dozen of our members can't make it. It's such an amazing archaeological site we'd like to give as many people as possible the opportunity to visit and so have decided to reschedule.

Sorry to disappoint those who have signed up.

Please note there will be no session in August as in past years this has also been very poorly attended.

Our next session will be on Saturday 12th September and we will be digging test pits at Marston Magna which is about a 15 minute drive from Yeovil. More details nearer the time.

The following sessions on October 3rd, November 7th and December 5th will be held at the Museum of Somerset in Taunton.
