The Tunnel Gallery The Tunnel Gallery is an exploration of public art in Middlesbrough.

Site specific temporary works are shown in the pedestrian underpass in Middlesbrough Railway Station, the billboard under the A66 bridge on Albert Road and virtually via our website. From late 2020 The Tunnel Gallery has been led and programmed by four independent arts organisations in Middlesbrough including; Tees Valley Arts, Navigator North, Platform A Gallery and The Auxiliary Project who are

founding members of Middlesbrough Cultural Partnership. The gallery builds on the foundation of the previous iteration of The Tunnel Gallery, initiated in 2013 by Mark Parham. Our curatorial themes investigate how artists and communities can respond to the hidden heritage of Middlesbrough through a series of artist commissions offered in partnership with Historic England through Middlesbrough Heritage Action Zone.

In February this year Aphra O'Connor installed new work as part of a The Tunnel Gallery commission for Celebrating Hidden Middlesbrough in Navigator North Hillstreetshopping space.

Titled 'Mooching' the work reimagines Middlesbrough's past through colourful graphic illustrations of hidden archectural details.

Aphra is interested in memories/stories/facts from the area surrounding Middlesbrough train station to develop further work from this gathering stories to be published in the coming months.

Recollections could be personal, or they could be from friends and family. They could be from recent times or times past, with the aim of capturing the rich community history in the town.
