Rose Eva Sculpture Sculptures in stone and bronze I create sculptures of the human form in both bronze and highly polished stone, such as marble and onyx.

While based on close observation from life, my figures are sensuous and abstracted, and must be explored with the hands as well as the eyes. My work has been exhibited in London, Paris and New York as well as around the UK. Public commissions include Deeper Than Skin, for Salisbury District Hospital, a commission won in a national competition. I am also delighted to undertake commissions for private clients.

Phoenix, risen from the ashes of A Question of Balance, damaged by either the exhibition or the carriers who brought her home just after I’d had an accident and knee operation (neither admitted liability). I was so angry and upset at the time but good, I think, has come out of bad. Just the very top and the very bottom of the original sculpture remain. One of the problems of making small pieces for a Christmas show (12/13 December, put it in your diaries) is that small bits of stone aren’t heavy to hold themselves down so move about and are a struggle to carve. The amazing Massimo at ga_marble_carrara showed me how to do it: use stone glue to stick them to a large tile and hold them steady. Works a treat, who’d have thought. Well duh

I cried when I arrived and I’ll be crying as I go

It’s all done. Three months of slog and I am finished - can’t quite believe it. Everything - sculptures, me - covered in a fine coating of dust plus taking photos in bright sunlight with strong shadows not ideal, but what do you think?

Haven’t made a cutout for far too long. It’s something to do in the evenings - can’t cut stone all day and night
