Art & Space Gallery is delighted to introduce Richard Nicholas Hannavy-Cousen, a Newenden, based Kent artist whose deeply considered practice explores the beauty and fragility of the natural world.

Richard has been drawn to art from an early age. He studied Fine Art at Luton School of Art before developing a varied creative career spanning graphic design and photography, while continuing to develop his own artistic practice. His work has evolved across oils, acrylics, pen and ink, photography and sculpture, with his distinctive pen-and-ink editions previously selected for sale by Heal’s of London, marking an early professional recognition of his work.

After relocating to Kent, Richard’s distinctive approach to painting, characterised by careful observation and a visceral interpretation of natural forms, led to exhibitions including the Port Lympne Zoo Gallery. His work has also been exhibited in Ashford, Canterbury and Wadhurst. A period of sculpture study at Canterbury Christ Church University further deepened his understanding of form and structure, elements that subtly underpin his paintings.

Richard’s work is rooted in a deep reverence for the natural world and a profound awareness of humanity’s impact upon it. Through painting and sculpture, he seeks not simply to represent nature, but to interpret its energy, fragility and complexity.

A dedicated runner and lifelong observer of the natural world, Richard draws continual inspiration from environments ranging from the microscopic to the cosmic, from the delicate structure of a butterfly’s wing to the vast expanses of ocean and sky. His work reflects this breadth of vision, combining careful observation with imagination and sensitivity, inviting viewers to pause, reflect and reconnect with the world around them.

Drawing on years of experience, Laura has developed her own distinctive collection of ceramics. Drawing on her background as a fashion designer, Hollie creates paintings built through layers of colour, revealing unexpected tones and textures beneath the surface. Her intuitive approach, combined with a remarkable eye for unusual colour combinations, brings a fresh and contemporary interpretation to the landscapes that inspire her.

Surrounded by the countryside of Kent, Hollie is captivated by expansive agricultural fields, rolling contours, and the ever-changing sky. Art & Space Gallery is delighted to present the work of Delphine Pope, an established British artist with over 30 years of professional practice.

Delphine has exhibited extensively throughout the UK and has been published by the internationally renowned De Montfort Fine Art. As both an accomplished artist and former gallery owner, she brings a wealth of experience and a unique perspective to her creative practice.

Inspired by the wild beauty of Dungeness, Rye Harbour and the surrounding landscape, Delphine creates richly textured mixed media paintings that celebrate nature in all its forms. Deeply rooted in the landscape, her work often explores botanical themes and haunting floral forms, capturing the natural beauty of wildflowers and the subtle details that often go unnoticed. Inspiration may begin with something as simple as a cluster of pebbles, scattered seeds, or a small flower emerging from harsh ground.

Using layers of paper, paint, pencil, ink and chalk pastel, she builds beautifully tactile surfaces that balance spontaneity with careful observation. Art & Space Gallery is pleased to introduce artist Deborah Smith, whose expressive figurative works explore the quiet language of the body and emotion.

Born in Sheffield and based in Kent for many years, Deborah’s artistic journey began through early formal study before evolving into a deeply personal and intuitive practice. Working with acrylic and oil paint alongside pastel, charcoal, and graphite, she creates layered compositions rich in movement, texture, and emotional depth.

Deborah’s paintings balance energetic mark-making with delicate figurative lines, allowing forms to emerge and recede through colour and gesture. Each work reveals a thoughtful interplay between vulnerability and resilience, presence and absence.

Deborah describes her work as an exploration of the quiet language of the body - gestures and emotions that often express what words cannot.

‘Through colour, texture, and composition, I seek to reveal both vulnerability and resilience, allowing each painting to evolve as an intuitive and deeply personal response. The figure becomes a vessel for navigating memory, presence, and the courage to be seen.’
