Something special is coming to Tighnabruaich Gallery this summer.

Mach Squared brings together the work of brothers David Mach HRSA and Robert Mach in a major joint exhibition celebrating creativity, connection, humour and storytelling.

Expect bold sculpture, collage and mixed-media works from two artists whose careers have stretched from Fife to the international stage.

Mach². Two brothers. One remarkable exhibition.

David Mach HRSA is one of Britain’s most celebrated sculptors — internationally recognised for his monumental public works, explosive imagination, and career spanning major galleries and institutions across the world. Alongside him, Robert Mach brings his own distinctive visual language through sculpture, collage and mixed-media works that explore material, form and narrative in deeply personal ways.

This June, the Mach brothers come together at Tighnabruaich Gallery on Argyll’s Secret Coast for MACH² — a rare exhibition of collaborative and individual works. The exhibition forms part of RSA200: Celebrating Together, marking 200 years of the Royal Scottish Academy.

Set against the shores of the Kyles of Bute, this exhibition is a meeting of imagination, family, dialogue and decades of artistic practice.

Opening Day: Friday 13th June, 10am–5pm
Meet the Artists: 12–3pm

Following opening weekend, the exhibition will remain open to the public Thursday–Sunday, 10am–5pm until 5th July. All works available for sale.

We’ve been quiet on socials. Not idle — just building.

Since January, aside from personal health issues, much of our focus has been on stepping back, reassessing and putting stronger foundations in place for what comes next at Tighnabruaich Gallery and the Scottish Contemporary Collective.

Behind the scenes that has meant: — a facilitated planning session with our artists, mentors and stakeholders.

Sight size workshop for SCCOCO with Lewis Mackenzie
Residency time here in Tighnabruaich for SCCOCO.
With some necessary long-term strategic work on how this grows sustainably

Most importantly, we are pleased to share that we have now been awarded our first external funding through Firstport, receiving the Start It Award of £5,000 for Scottish Contemporary Collective.

This funding will support the legal constitution of our not-for-profit model and marks an important milestone in building a more robust and sustainable future for the gallery, the Collective and the artists we support.

For a project built on self-funding, determination and a belief that artists deserve better support structures, this matters.

And now we look ahead.

Our summer programme begins on 13 June with:

Mach Squared
David Mach HRSA & Robert Mach
running until 5 July.

This exhibition is part of RSA200: Celebrating Together. This is a partnership project bringing together hundreds of artists, partners, galleries and institutions to mark the bicentenary of the Royal Scottish Academy.

More to come this week.

As we close the year, we want to pause and say thank you.

Thank you to our Scottish Contemporary Collective artists, to every artist who submitted work to our open calls, and to those who trusted us with their practice.

Thank you to our judges, who gave their time, care and integrity to a rigorous process.

Thank you to our visitors and collectors, whose support directly sustains artists and this project.

And thank you to those who have advocated for us quietly behind the scenes — your belief has mattered more than you know.

To the local community, thank you for welcoming us so warmly into this beautiful village. Becoming part of Tighnabruaich has been a privilege.

And on a personal note — thank you to my family: my wife and our two children. This year has demanded a lot, and their patience and support have made everything possible.

We’re ending the year tired, proud, and deeply grateful — and looking ahead to 2026 with renewed energy.

There’s more to build, more to learn, and more to do, but the foundations are there.

Wishing you all a peaceful festive period and a restorative New Year.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

In this short video, Anne MacDonald reflects on the judging process — the care, openness and seriousness with which this Prize was approached.

It feels fitting that this story closes the year.

This past year has been nothing short of neck on the line.

Head first. No safety net.

Driven by a belief that what we were doing wasn’t just right for artists — but something the wider art world has been quietly crying out for and to be inclusive of those who felt art wasn't their space.

We set out to build a scaffold.

One that could protect, guide and shape emerging voices.

One that fills gaps left by traditional pathways — technical skill, mentorship, business acumen, and real-world support.

The future is, of course, uncertain.

Systemic change always is.

And right now, we’re still just a group of upstarts with good intentions — pushing against a system that has long asked artists to survive rather than thrive.

But we stand resolute.

Thank you to every artist, judge, sponsor, visitor, collector and supporter who has stood with us this year. Your belief has carried this further than we could have imagined.

January brings a strategic session that will sharpen who we are, how we’re structured, and who we serve.

And for absolute clarity —
we are here to serve the artist.

That extraordinary human being who chooses this life.

We exist to equip them with the skills, confidence and support to not just endure the art world — but to flourish within it.

No small feat.

No easy road.

But a necessary one.

Thank you for being part of it. 🙏🏽

In this video, Louise Scott speaks candidly about her practice — the reality of being an artist in a difficult economic climate, the uncertainty, and the quiet resilience it takes to keep going.

What she also speaks about is connection.

About how this Prize brought artists together — to talk, to share work, to be seen and heard by peers who understand the struggle as well as the joy.

That matters.

The Michael Harding Secret Coast Prize for Fine Art was never just about winning. It was about creating space — for conversation, support, and community — in a profession that too often asks artists to survive alone.

We’re grateful to Louise for her openness, and to every artist who trusted this Prize with their work.

The exhibition is still open — and every visit, every share, every sale helps us continue building something that puts artists first.

As we head into the final weekend of the inaugural
‘Michael Harding’ Secret Coast Prize for Fine Art, we need to say this plainly:

This project cannot survive on goodwill alone.

What you’re seeing in this video is not just an exhibition — it’s the result of months of belief, risk, and hard work from artists across Scotland, the UK and beyond.

Emerging artists shown alongside established voices. Work made with care, intention, and honesty.

Last weekend’s sales were disappointing.
And while that’s part of running a gallery, it’s also the moment where we ask — openly — for your support.

If you’ve been thinking:
“I’ll come next week”
or
“I’ll buy something online later”

This is next week. This is later.

Come to Argyll’s Secret Coast.
Walk into the gallery.
Stand in front of the work.

And if something speaks to you — buy it.

Buy it for yourself.
Buy it for someone you love.
Buy it knowing that your purchase directly supports artists and helps secure the future of this project.

If you simply can’t make it to the gallery, every work is available online.

Just send us an enquiry and we’ll email you a direct link to purchase — it’s that simple.

Every sale funds the development of emerging artists.

Every sale keeps this model alive.

Every sale matters.

This is the last chance to see the full exhibition.

The final weekend.

And an opportunity to do something genuinely meaningful with your money.

We’d love to welcome you — in person or online.

And we truly need your support.

As part of the inaugural ‘Michael Harding’ Secret Coast Prize for Fine Art, we want to take a moment to spotlight the Early Career artists whose work has been such a vital part of this exhibition.

• Laura Cullen — SUAN
• Mairi Blair — Adrift

🏆 Early Career Prize Recipient
Connor Draycott — Cara

Connor was also awarded the Almitas Award, generously supported by Tamburrini Art & Framing, alongside materials support from Michael Harding Handmade Oil Colours.

We are incredibly grateful to Michael Harding Paints and Tamburrini Art & Framing for their continued belief in emerging artists and for backing this Prize in a way that creates real, practical impact at a crucial stage in an artist’s career.

We’re now entering the second last weekend of this exhibition — and we are deeply proud of what has been achieved on these walls.

🎄 Late Night Opening — Tonight
🕧 12.30pm – 8pm

Join us for the village Christmas Lights Switch-On — late shopping, mulled wine, food, and a brilliant atmosphere along the street.

This is a special show.
Come see it.
Come support the artists.
And if you can — collect.

The exhibition runs until 21st December.
We’d love to welcome you.

We’re heading into the second last weekend of the ‘Michael Harding’ Secret Coast Prize for Fine Art — and if you’ve been meaning to visit, now is the time.

This video captures our dear friend José Luis Serzo, one of the most important multidisciplinary artists working today, sharing why he was drawn to our project — and why he believes this Prize can grow year on year into something internationally significant.

His support, and the support of artists across Europe and the UK, has meant the world to us.

But now, in these final days, we need your support too.

Every artwork sold helps us directly fund the development of emerging artists through our commission model — 11% of every sale reinvested back into the Collective.

Buying art here isn’t just a personal joy.
It actively builds a fairer, more sustainable future for artists.
