Totnes Museum is a community museum situated in a beautiful Elizabethan Merchant's House, built around 1575 for the Kelland family. The house has been painstakingly restored and retains many features dating back to the Elizabethan period. Our collections dating back to 5000BC, relate to the social, economic and cultural history of Totnes. We also have an wonderful Archive at the back of the Museum in our lovely garden.

The Museum will be open on Friday 19th September from 10.30am - 4pm and also on Saturday 20th September from 11am to 3pm. Come and have a look at the display of photos of the building before it was a Museum and of the late 1950s early 1960s restoration. There are also photos of the work being done now to maintain this lovely building. It's worth a look.

We're having some building work done at the museum - unsuitable, cement based render is being removed and will be replaced with lime plaster. Because of this we will be closed on Tuesday September 9th - but we'll be open on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th for the start of Heritage Open Days. Come and see what's going on!

The Museum will be open this Saturday, August 23rd, from 11am until 3pm. Come along and have look inside the only 16th century merchant's house in Totnes where three floors of rooms are open to visitors. It's a hidden gem!
