As part of our series marking 100 years since the General Strike of 1926, we’re continuing to share stories and artefacts from the Rhondda Heritage Park Museum collection. Although the official strike lasted just nine days, its impact was felt far longer—especially in the coalfields of South Wales. Here in the Rhondda, the lock-out continued for a gruelling seven months, lasting until December 1926. This period was defined by the strength and solidarity of local communities. Direct relief efforts were organised to support miners and their families, with remarkable results. In just one week, 18,050 children were fed through a school feeding programme—and a Rhondda Medical Officer later reported that 64% of those children showed improved health as a result.
These stories highlight the resilience, care, and collective spirit that carried communities through one of the most challenging periods in their history. You can explore these stories—and more artefacts from the 1926 General Strike—in our current exhibitions. Rhondda Heritage Park Museum is open Tuesday – Saturday. Find us here https://orlo.uk/7nF8w

Elizabeth Andrews Statue Unveiling
Join us for a very special occasion as we unveil a new statue honouring Elizabeth Andrews—a trailblazing Welsh socialist, suffragist, and community campaigner.
Thursday 25 June
12:00pm
Rhondda Heritage Park Museum, Trehafod
This unveiling marks the fifth and final statue in the inspiring Monumental Welsh Women project, celebrating the incredible contributions of Welsh women in our history and placing them in the public spotlight where they belong. The project has already brought to life statues of Betty Campbell (Cardiff), Dr Elaine Morgan (Mountain Ash), Cranogwen (Llangrannog), and Lady Rhondda (Newport)—all now cherished landmarks. Be part of history as we complete this powerful national journey. Everyone is welcome to attend

Ymunwch â ni am achlysur arbennig iawn wrth i ni ddadorchuddio cerflun newydd yn anrhydeddu Elizabeth Andrews- sosialydd, swffragydd ac ymgyrchydd cymunedol arloesol o Gymru.
Dydd Iau 25 Mehefin
12.00pm
Amgueddfa Parc Treftadaeth Cwm Rhondda, Trehafod
Mae'r achlysur yma'n nodi'r pumed cerflun a'r cerflun olaf i gael ei osod yn rhan o brosiect ysbrydoledig Monumental Welsh Women, sy'n dathlu cyfraniadau anhygoel menywod o Gymru ac yn gwneud y cyhoedd yn fwy effro iddyn nhw.
Mae'r prosiect eisoes wedi dod â cherfluniau o Betty Campbell (Caerdydd), Dr Elaine Morgan (Aberpennar), Cranogwen (Llangrannog), ac Arglwyddes Rhondda (Casnewydd) yn fyw, ac maen nhw oll bellach yn dirnodau gwerthfawr.
Byddwch yn rhan o hanes wrth i ni gwblhau'r daith genedlaethol bwerus yma.
Croeso i bawb
