A date for your diary.
As this is the main fundraising event of the year we are grateful for all the support given. There will be a raffle and a Hundred Square as well as the usual tea, coffee and chat.
We rely totally on donations to maintain the buildings and pay for electricity etc so every penny is gratefully received to help us preserve the past of Turriff for the future.

Leading up to Armistice Day we have a new display showing Rolls of Honour of men who participated in The Great War from one of the churches in Turriff. We are not sure which church so would be happy to hear from anyone if they can help us with that. Linked to the Rolls we have The War Book of Turriff and Twelve Miles Round which documents what happened to the people who served in the war. If you had a relative who served why not pop in and look them up.


We are indebted to Formartine Rural Partnership who funded the framing of The Rolls and to Meadowlands Banff who carried out the work.

In our archives we have the Minutes Books from The Fintry Ploughmen's Mutual Improvement Association who met in Fintry Public School. The object of the Association was the social, moral and scientific improvements of its members. The annual subscription was one shilling. Ladies could become members - a club ahead of its time.!

There were 19 rules, but notably all personal remarks were prohibited. Any member guilty of any wilful breach of the rules was fined 1/6.

Some of the writing is difficult to read but a fascinating insight into life around Turra before and after the two wars.

From Memories of Mary Lorimer there was a laundry above what used to be Smarts/Beedies paper shop operated by a Miss Knox. Everything was done by hand with an old type mangle, washing tubs and scrubbing boards. She had one girl to help her. A similar laundry was operated in Water Lane by The Eddie Sisters
