A little splash of colour has landed in Lostwithiel…

I’ve just dropped off a collection of my colourful handmade pieces to LilyBoo in Lostwithiel — including wire fish, stitched hoops, framed pieces and my lovely illustrated tea towels.

If you fancy a browse, there are lots of lovely local makers in there too. Perfect for gifts, little treats and joyful things for the home.

It made me very happy seeing all the pieces together on the shelf — bright, cheerful and full of seaside spirit.

If you pop in, let me know if you spot my fish swimming around!

I’ve realised something recently…

I have long been fascinated by the transformation of one material into another — metal made to feel soft, folded, stitched or worn, carrying echoes of textiles, clothing and memory.

Looking back, perhaps this has always been there.

From making metal shoes (badly!) in my first year at art college, to knitting my cutlery drawer, to the work I’m creating now — I’ve always been drawn to the challenge of making one material mimic another.

Maybe that’s why these new Fragments of What Remains pieces feel so important.

They feel like a return to something I’ve always been quietly exploring.

What materials or objects have always fascinated you?

Metal made soft • Memory in materials • Textile-inspired metalwork • Art inspired by everyday objects

Do you have those memories?

Pieces of nostalgia that come and say hi, every so often?

I created Fragments of What Remains as an homage to my memories to remind me of important times, people and emotions.

With this piece I was inspired by patterns from pottery and from a dress that my mum gave me in the 1990s that she had worn in the 1960s. It’s a beautiful reminder of times together. Sharing experiences…

Using metal in this way- as if it’s a piece of textiles or fabric- a patch or piece stitched back together with pin holes, folds, seams and buttons help to convey this. I love making metal look like material like a garment, pocket or sleeve because clothing takes us back in fashion and in memory.

A snapshot made to remind us what remains….

See this piece amongst others from Friday to Sunday at my studio in St Austell as part of the St Austell & Tywardreath Art Trail Studios 51-54
I look forward to seeing you☺️
