The hot weather and thunderstorms we've had this week have had a beautiful effect on the nature in the park, with flowers blooming brighter than ever.

Make the most of warm days with a visit to YSP this weekend. Drop-in from 11.00–16.00 today (30 May) to get stuck in to sculpture building and mark-making activities for families to get creative together, or head out for a walk in the Park, spotting sculptures (and sheep!) in the landscape.

Preparations for our major new exhibition in the Underground Gallery are well underway. YSP’s technical team are busy installing sculptures outdoors, building new walls inside the galleries and unboxing over 60 artworks.

Hold to This Earth is the first ever group exhibition to be staged in the Underground Gallery, showcasing the work of 38 contemporary Indigenous North American artists on a scale never seen before in the UK.

Visit Hold to This Earth from 13 June 2026–18 April 2027.

If you're looking for fun activities to keep the kids entertained this half term, YSP has got you covered.

There's plenty of activities to keep the kids occupied, like Little Wild Wood where they can burn off some energy as they play amongst the trees, or pick up a tree discovery kit to help you explore the nature in the Park.

Under 5s will love getting creative under a canopy of trees in the Hidden Forest (open on 28 and 29 May), whilst young people aged 6-25 can take part in outdoor sculpture and mark making activities at Discover in a Day and achieve an Arts Award Discover certificate (30 May).

Kids visit for free, and parking is free too.

LR Vandy worked closely with YSP’s technical team to create a series of new works for her current exhibition Rise, on display at The Weston Gallery until 13 September 2026.

Working with lengths of rope collected from Chatham historic dockyard, Vandy and the team created the towering, twisted rope forms which fill the gallery space.

The use of colour in LR Vandy's work is very deliberate, with each shade representing a different theme found throughout her exhibition.

Natural rope strands have been bound in colourful threads in this chosen palette, with colours linked to colonialism, slavery and environmental harm.

Green represents harvest and land; pale blue and yellow represent the sky and sun; gold references the mining industry, exploitation and trade; red for blood; and rich blue connects to the sought after natural dye that is harvested from the indigo plant.

Enjoy a full weekend of sculpture and plan a visit to experience the new exhibitions opening at The Hepworth, before setting off on a walk amongst the sculptures outdoors at YSP, just 20 minutes away by car.

We’re proud to work closely with The Hepworth team to cement Wakefield as a must-visit cultural destination, and as one of the partners of Yorkshire Sculpture International, which celebrates West Yorkshire as the UK’s capital of sculpture.
