Rachel Fooks : : Ceramics My work is inspired by nature. I juxtapose forms, textures and pattern to create sculptures, functional ware and jewellery.

Such a beautiful sunlight in the studio today. The shadows cast captures the texture on my new ceramic sculpture perfectly. I finished making it today ready to exhibit during Dorset Art Weeks.

Test piece for a new body of work to be exhibited during Dorset Art Weeks… created in a red stoneware clay, experimenting with carved design filled with white slip and oxides. Love the clay, enjoyed the process, happy with the final result

If you saw the potters on the Great Pottery Throwdown do a sawdust firing and fancy giving it a go take a look at this video… I explain the process simply, slowly, step by step. I use a barrel rather than a brick built kiln or a pit but they all achieve the same results. It’s not a great video so don’t judge me… It’s the first and last one I made!!

This is my first video on YouTube! I’m an experimental ceramicist, wildlife enthusiast, gardener and mother of 2 wonderful kids. I thought I'd share with you...

On this week’s episode of the Great Pottery Throwdown they were using smoke firing on burnished pottery. I first did this alternative firing technique in a friend’s garden about 16 years ago. The fire got out of control and it was a battle to stop it spreading to her beautiful listed cottage, we almost cooked a poodle and at one point I realised there were adders at my feet making eye contact with me! Thankfully it all turned out ok and I’ve come a long way in health and safety since then!! This sycamore seed sculpture is one of my favourite pieces made with locally dug clay, burnished and fired with sea w**d, coffee and dried banana skins

This went to its new home… it will be displayed alongside the Studland coastline where I found inspiration to create this piece and others in the collection. It’s made from very thin white stoneware slabs decorated using inlayed slips, sgraffito and transparent glaze

A few yeas ago I was commissioned to make 2 goblets for an alter in a church… I haven’t made one since. This one was made especially for my daughter’s 21st birthday. 🍾 I had fun using a selection of glazes from Bath Potters on a white birch stoneware clay which is beautifully smooth to throw with
