Good progress!

Burtonwood Moss is looking a lot different in the new year!

We have been mulching unwanted scrub and molinia (grass) vegetation on the Merseyside moss, one of the first stages of lowland peat restoration. With the invasive vegetation cleared, we can start the rewetting process by installing bunding on the site.

Keep an eye out for further updates as well continue our vital restoration work on parts of the Sutton Mosses in Merseyside.

The work is part of the Nature for Climate Peatland Grant Scheme, funded by Natural England and Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). Supported by The Mersey Forest.

Doing a great job!

Doing a great job!

The newly install bunds at Little Woolden Moss are already doing a great job of retaining water, even before they are finished!

Bunds are a great way to keep water from draining off site, as they are essentially a water proof wall above and below ground. We need to keep the water on site in order to bring the hydrology back to it's natural peatland level.

The work is part of the Nature for Climate Peatland Grant Scheme, funded by Natural England and Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
