Step back in time and discover 850 years of farming and life in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Located in an idyllic rural setting close to Cambridge (just off the A10), the Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey is a day out for all the family! Our independent museum tells the 850-year story of farming and life in the Cambridgeshire Fens, with hands-on and interactive exhibits, in addition to being the locati

on of Denny Abbey, the beautiful Former Benedictine monastery which we manage on behalf of English Heritage. The Farmland Museum opened to the public at Denny in 1997. It celebrates the agricultural heritage of Cambridgeshire; and the rural communities, industries and crafts of the area. It is open seasonally from April to the end of October. The Farmland Museum is a registered charity and manages the 12th century Denny Abbey and 14th century Nuns Refectory on behalf of English Heritage. Walnut Tree Cottage is also part of English Heritage's site but is furnished with the museum's collections to recreate a 1940s farm labourer's home.

This it is also World Milk Day.

These milk bottles on display in our dairy exhibit come from a variety of dairies such as West Dunstable Dairies, F.N Coleman Woodside Green and Home Farm Dairy Histon.

Local dairies and deliveries were an important aspect of village life before being replaced by larger stores.

Do you remember getting your milk in bottles like these?

This coincides with the 2nd day of our 1940s event.

We are sharing some of our objects from the 1940's which make up this child's tea set. The set is decorated with a Snow White theme which was popular as the film was released in 1937.

This tea set and some of our other 1940's objects will be on temporary display in the Stone Barn for today only so make sure to visit today if you want to see them.

The forecast shows the sun will be shining all weekend! ☀️

At Denny Abbey and the Farmland Museum we have the best of both worlds with lots of outdoor spaces to enjoy the warm weather as well as Medieval stone buildings like Denny Abbey which remain cool despite the sun.

We also have a generous stock of ice creams in both the café and the entrance kiosk and plenty of cold drinks in our fridge to keep you hydrated

Why not stop by and visit? Today (23/05) you will be able to explore the museum as normal while Sunday and Monday you will be transported back in time to the 1940s in our special event. Visit our website to find out more, including entry terms and conditions on Sunday and Monday.

Denny Abbey and The Farmland Museum

I’ll be singing two live sets of wartime classics on Monday 25th May at 11am and 2pm 🎶

It’s always a brilliant atmosphere at this event with vintage vehicles, reenactors, historic displays and lots going on around the museum grounds. It is one of the best events we have ever done.

A little bit of history too — Denny Abbey dates back to the 12th century and the site has been part of English rural life for hundreds of years, which makes it such a fitting setting for a 1940s weekend.

The event is running Sunday and Monday however I am just there on the Monday.
