Whitchurch Heritage Centre

Whitchurch Heritage Centre Whitchurch Heritage Centre is free to enter and houses a range of long-term exhibits and children's activities, plus regular short-term exhibitions

The Main Exhibition Hall heralds the work of Whitchurch firm J.B. Joyce who were established in the Town in 1690 and were famed for producing Tower Clocks for many important buildings. There is also a section dedicated to Roman and Medieval history with a number of interesting finds and artefacts on display. The Caldecott Gallery houses a fine collection of artworks and memorabilia relating to Ran

dolph Caldecott (who once worked in the town) and to the Whitchurch-born musician Edward German. An interactive unit allows visitors to learn more about these famous men. Many of the exhibits are geared towards children and are very much hands on. There is a Roman 'dig' where finds can be uncovered, a brass rubbing table where budding artists can create their own masterpieces, and a giant jigsaw with a Randolph Caldecott style picture to complete.

This week the volunteers at Whitchurch Museum & Archives will each be receiving a personal certificate to thank them for their hard work.
Whitchurch Town Mayor, Councillor Rose Hall, kindly called in to the 12 St Mary's Street premises a couple of weeks ago to meet some of the volunteers (and secretly sign the certificates !!)

*** It's DIY time at the Museum ****
As part of the ongoing maintenance at 12 St Mary's Street our landlords, Whitchurch Town Council, arranged for a new damp-proof course to be installed during the summer. It's now time to paint the bare plaster and to help the coffers of the Town Council this will be done by volunteers during the first week of March.
Consequently the Heritage Centre will be closed to the public on Tuesday 3rd and Thursday 5th - but we will be open on Saturday 7th from 10.00 till 1.00.
