Today, we're celebrating our volunteers who help welcome visitors and bring the museum experience to life.

As invigilators and floor walkers, these volunteers play an important role in creating a friendly and engaging environment for everyone who visits. From answering questions and sharing stories about our collections to helping visitors find their way around, they are often the first point of contact for our guests.

Their knowledge, enthusiasm, and warm welcome help make every visit to The Beacon Museum a memorable one.

For Day 3 , we're highlighting the volunteers who help preserve local history through the digital scanning of photographs.

These dedicated volunteers carefully scan and catalogue historic images, helping to safeguard them for future generations. By creating digital copies, they ensure that precious photographs can be preserved, shared, and accessed while protecting the original items from unnecessary handling.

Their work plays a vital role in preserving the stories, people, and places that make up our community's rich heritage.

🌟 National Volunteer Week 🌟

Today, we're celebrating the talented volunteers who help care for, repair, and create items that support our displays, activities, and outreach work.

From crafting beautiful rag rugs and textiles to repairing and restoring items, these volunteers share their skills, creativity, and patience to help keep traditional crafts alive and ensure treasured objects can continue to be enjoyed by others.

Their work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact can be seen throughout the museum and in many of the activities we deliver to our visitors and community groups.

A huge thank you to these dedicated volunteers for the time, expertise, and care they bring to every project.

Throughout this week, we'll be shining a spotlight on the incredible work our volunteers do every day to support the museum and our community.

Today, we're celebrating our Outreach Volunteers and the fantastic reminiscence talks they deliver. These sessions use objects, photographs, and stories from the past to spark memories, encourage conversation, and bring people together.

Whether visiting community groups, care settings, or welcoming participants to the museum, our volunteers help create meaningful connections through shared experiences and local history.

June is packed with family fun, exhibitions and exciting new experiences!

Step back into the 90s with the nostalgic I Grew Up 90s exhibition, discover the stunning portraits of J.D. Kenworthy, enjoy creative Beakid workshops, and don't miss the special Whitehaven in the 90s pop-up weekend this June.

This month, we're also launching our brand new Walk & Talk series - bringing local history and stories to life with guided walks and fascinating conversations.
