The Railway Preservation Society of Ireland is delighted to announce the departure of the"Mighty Kingdom" 071 Class Diesel Railtour on Saturday 17th October 2026.

Join us on board for this epic long journey of over 400 miles or over 650km from Dublin to the Kingdom of Kerry and back. Our 071 class hauled tour will journey to the end of the line at Tralee with a stop off in Killarney for a longer break in this beautiful Irish town.

Early bird tickets are now on sale via our Eventbrite page. (Facebook won’t let us link at the moment). Full information available also via Eventbrite.

Please note, we have not received confirmed timings from Irish Rail, however outline timings are 07:45 from Dublin and back for 21:00, so a full day out on the rails.

Step back in time and experience the sights, sounds and stories of Ireland’s railway heritage at Whitehead Railway Museum for European Heritage Open Day!

Enjoy free entry to the museum and explore all five of our fascinating galleries, filled with historic railway artefacts, restored exhibits, photographs and stories from the golden age of rail travel. Discover the locomotives, people and engineering that brought the railway to life.

There’s something for all ages to enjoy, including our dedicated children’s area, where young visitors can play with toy trains, dress up in railway-themed outfits and enjoy imaginative play. Children can also explore our sensory room, designed to provide a calm and engaging space for younger visitors.

For an extra special experience, climb aboard our heritage steam train and enjoy a short steam train ride within our premises. Train rides are available for an additional charge and are hauled by our 105 year-old steam locomotive No.3BG "Guinness". You will be transported to a bygone era!

Our café will be open for hot and cold food and refreshments.

Trains at: 11:00, 11:30, 12:00, 12:30, 13:30, 14:00, 14:30, 15:00.
(Please arrive 15 minutes before your booked time.)
