Watergaw Ceramics At Watergaw Ceramics I make a range of pottery and jewellery with my in glaze reduction lustre glazes

While at Art college I got interested in the movement and reflective colour found in water - something I still find fascinating today and it's still the inspiration for a lot of the work I do today. It helps that I get to see the sea every day from my kitchen window.

A wee time lapse video of one of the many processes the clay goes through to turn it in to fish!

🤞🤞these will be ready for Potfest Scotland in just under two weeks time!
Potfest Scotland at Scone Palace open to the public 12th-14th June tickets available now!

Looking forward to seeing you there 😊 it’s an amazing event!

Turning (or trimming) one of my Muin jars on a chuck.

Turning on a ready made chuck is essential for the shape I’m turning but it can help speed up the process too

I turn quite quickly (but the video is at double the speed!) and I love how it can transform the piece. Sometimes you’ve got to be careful you don’t get carried away watching the clay spirals come off and trim through the bottom 😢

I made some wee bowls at the weekend, they were thrown first, then they have to dry to leather hard and then they are turned to create a foot ring and trim away any excess!
Now they need to dry out until all the physical water in the clay has gone and next it’s a bisque fire, then they are glazed, glaze fired and finally they have a post firing reduction (PFR) in my gas kiln!
Each wee bowl has been handled at least 10 times by me!

🥳 window displays completed! It’s only taken me 3 weeks ……
I do love the challenge of presenting my work and Brian’s
When we first moved into the old Church I was only allowed clear glass in one of the windows and the rest was green! Certainly affected how the lustre looked!

Hope you have a lovely weekend 😊

🥳 all these colours from just one glaze 🥰
This is why I love in-glaze lustre!
Nearly 30 years of disappearing down the in-glaze lustre rabbit hole and I still get surprised by what comes out of the kiln!
I would normally describe this glaze as goldy/pink but this is on porcelain and it definitely does its own thing helped of course by the kiln 🧚🧚🏻‍♀️🧚‍♂️🌈

If you like what you are seeing I would appreciate a follow 😊

This is one of my subtler (or quiet) in-glaze lustre glazes and I just love it when it gets this lilac reflection thing going on!

My apologies I won’t be opening the pottery until next week - hopefully back to normal Tuesday 19th May at 10am 🤞🤞

I’m sorry but I’m going to be closed for the next two days - Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th May - I’ve got a rotten chest infection and need to give my body a chance to mend

It’s lovely to wander around the village and see my signs in situ!

Thank you to everyone who’s commissioned one and helped to keep me in business for nearly 23 years at the Chapel!

How did that happen 😉🤣

Just look 👀 at the range of colours in this beauty.

I buy bisque tiles which I then lustre glaze and turn into clocks- hence the drilled hole in the middle 🤣

Multiple layers of my lustre glazes and I know this one has been glaze fired at least two times which makes it even more unrepeatable and a one off!

Available soon in the pottery or potfest.co.uk at Scone Palace in June 12th - 14th mark it in your diaries now please!

If you like what I do and don’t already follow me (thank you to all those people who already do
😊🙏) I’d appreciate it if you would follow me 🥰 thank you in advance 🙏😊
