🖼️ Goodbye 🖼️
I did something many could or would never be able to do, I took a chance and opened a shop. I tried my best to help the town centre but sadly it has come to an end.
Short and sweet.
I’d like to thank my fellow shop owners, you were all so very welcoming, and it did for a short while feel like a little community.
I’d like to also thank all the people, especially those that took a chance at the very start, who put their wonderful art and items into the shop. Most of all I’d like to thank all the people that purchased and supported the shop.

Never say never, I may open a shop again in the future if Wick picks up but for now my art can be seen here fb.com/spovertonart where currently my most up to date info will be and listing of any future displays.

S P Overton Art. As today is the last day of the shop being open I thought I would take this opportunity to showcase myself. The S P stands for Sonya Paul, it was something like 36 years ago I won my first small art competition, I took my first paid commission 31 years ago from a small company that operated out of an office in the building that use to be where Thurso Lidl is now. 26 years ago I did my first workshop out Bettyhill way, 23 years ago I did my first movie commission, 15 years ago I was invited to display at an national gallery but it coincided with my wedding and I had to make a choice…
I have for years worked from home then in July 2024 I took over the shop (I shall post more about the shop on the 10th). The Cobblestones Gallery has been one step in my Artistic journey, I shall now return to working from home.

Artist Ewa Allan, this one will be hard as I love Ewa’s work, and so did many customers. I was always in awe of her paintings, her use of colour, the confident expression, the tonality of each piece. Ewa was here from the start and was here right to the end, such a wonderful person and her husband Tom who often had to step in as translator. I honestly think if the shop stayed open I would have to look at taking some Polish lessons so I could ask Ewa more question about her art, but sadly my only Polish word is bażant.
Ewa displays work locally so keep an eye out, her work can also be purchased direct from her.

Mushroom Moon and author Jayne Thomas.
Another person in the shop from the start, Jayne did all the mushrooms 🍄 as well as being the author of three published books (three so far). It does feel a little strange not having a myriad of toadstools to look at when I poke my head up to look over the counter.
It was a delight having Jayne in the shop. I believe both her mushrooms and books are available in various shops (Jayne if you see this please comment with a list where you can currently be found) and she does attend some local fairs so you might see her out and about.

It’s not easy expressing a mix of thank you and goodbye.
One person who has already been missed by customers and myself is The Fairy Goth Mother. Claire was a wonderful contributor to the shop with so many marvellous items, she is so creative.
Claire still does various local markets and fairs as well as bigger events further south, and I believe she often puts items in other shops.

I’ll be mentioning more people individually until we close this Friday 6th June however I’ll put my final post on the day we hand back the keys (10th June). If you spot someone who’s work you enjoy please go and give them a follow on their social media, just because The Cobblestones Gallery shop is closing doesn’t mean all the artists and creators are stopping, they would love support from locals.

Sheelagh Paterson, an artist and creator with many skills. Painting, drawing, calligraphy, jewellery making. Sheelagh was always willing to take a step into something different, she never allowed herself to be confined by a stereotype box which meant every month I was excited and waiting to see her next creation.
Her artwork is available direct from her, she also has some displays of jewellery and smaller artwork in The Norseman Hotel, and she attends some wedding fairs displaying her calligraphy skills. K&M Wood & Resin Design
Mr Duffy with his wonderful wooden creations, the book/iPad stands, the dip sets, the chopping boards and serving platters. He was here right at the start when we opened, loved the quality of his items. I believe he has, or had, items available up in John O’Groats and at Puldagon farm shop if anyone is looking for some of his items.

Worrallcraft
Vicky from Worrallcraft handmade in Scotland, although wasn’t here at the start she was a regular contributor, her lovely handmade cards were a staple on the shelves, and I can’t forget to mention the Creepie Stools, always an excellent conversation topic with customers as it was surprising what part of the UK knew them as that. I believe she has taught cardmaking classes in lybster so keep an eye out for possible future events.

Heathfield Crafts
Vi and her superb sun and dream catchers, the shop is so very dull without the many little rainbow speckles her items cast upon everything.
She still attends various markets and craft fairs so keep an eye out you may see her items somewhere.

The Tie Dye Emporium
Laura was in, sadly my remaining photos are very limited from her items. She did the traditional wooden Christmas tree ornaments that were popular as well as her bandanas, which I mind doing a display on how to use them as a wrap for gifts or bento boxes. She still attends various markets around the place, although there was no clothing items available in the shop she also does the Tie-dye clothes like hoodies and t-shirts so she should be easy to spot at the next event.

My last original in the shop!
Mr Sparrow has sold, the Tiger Moth has sold, and the large Misty Stag has sold, my last actual drawing or painting in the shop by me as S P Overton Art is this little ink & pen picture of two huskies running in harness.
I still have prints, I still have some of the ‘Magic Potion’ bottles, I’m still working on my commissions, and there is still some of Ewa’s wonderful work available, and of course there is some music books available.

Last day open to public is 6th June

Ewa Allan’s canvas paintings. These are wonderful, I just love the expression and atmosphere or her paintings.
The Swans is an oil painting, the others are acrylic.

Remember we close for good come 5pm on the 6th June.

With just less than two weeks before we close I’d like to show some of Ewa Allan’s work that I still have available.
I absolutely love her style and I am in awe of her bird paintings ☺️
