What’s the story behind your favourite object?

Something you could never throw away, not because it’s expensive or rare, but because it means something to you.

The Museum of East Dorset is inviting people across East Dorset to loan an object or photograph for a new community exhibition celebrating local stories, memories and connections.

We want to showcase the everyday objects that hold meaning. Items that remind us of people, places, moments and pieces of our lives.

Selected objects will go on display at the Museum of East Dorset later this year, helping us create a shared portrait of East Dorset through the things people treasure most.

Even if your object isn’t selected for the physical exhibition, it may still be featured in a digital showcase so even more stories can be shared with the community.

If it matters to you, we’d love to hear its story 💚
🗓 Submissions open now until 3 August

✨ Supporting Global Accessibility Awareness Day ✨

The Museum of East Dorset is proud to introduce its new Sensory Shed, a calming multi sensory retreat nestled within the museum garden, designed to welcome visitors of all ages and abilities 💫

Created as part of the museum’s ongoing commitment to accessibility and inclusion, the Sensory Shed offers a peaceful space to pause, explore, play and unwind during a museum visit

Operations Manager Andy Putt said: “Our aim here at Museum of East Dorset is to be accessible to all.”

Alongside the Sensory Shed, the museum also offers free sensory backpacks for visitors to use while exploring, modelled here by some of the brilliant members of our resident theatre company Millstream.

The backpacks include supportive items such as fidget toys, ear defenders and creative activities, all designed to help visitors with special educational needs get the most out of their museum experience

Together, these initiatives help create a welcoming environment where everyone can feel comfortable, supported and able to enjoy their visit
