And just like that… May takes a bow 🌿✨

If May at Sudeley had a soundtrack, it might sound a little like the swooping wings of birds of prey, the applase of circus audiences, the whirring of candyfloss machines, laughter in the gardens and the rustle of roses beginning to bloom.

Thank you for wandering through it all with us.

Now, onto June… 🌸

✨ 6 MUST SEE EXHIBITS AT SUDELEY CASTLE ✨

A visit to Sudeley Castle is a journey through centuries of English history.

Inside the Castle Rooms and exhibitions, you’ll find remarkable objects that tell the story of the people who lived here and events that shaped the nation.

Here are six must-see exhibits to look out for during your visit:

1. The Allegory of the Tudor Succession painting

One of Sudeley’s most fascinating paintings, this extraordinary Tudor artwork celebrates the Tudor dynasty and depicts Henry VIII with his children Edward VI, Mary I and Elizabeth I.

Keen-eyed visitors may even notice something familiar, the pattern on Elizabeth I’s dress inspired the design of Sudeley’s beautiful Knot Garden.

2. Katherine Parr’s Prayer Books

Katherine Parr was the author of two books, Prayers or Meditations (1545) and Lamentations of a Sinner (1547).

She was the first woman in the 16th Century to write abook and the only queen, other than Queen Victoria, to have written one. These books offer a glimpse into her intellect, faith and influence during one of England’s most turbulent periods.

3. George Vertue copies of Holbein portraits

These beautifully detailed copies preserve the likenesses of Tudor figures originally painted by Hans Holbein, allowing visitors to come face-to-face with the people who shaped one of history’s most dramatic royal eras.

4. Sheldon Tapestry

This 16th centry tapestry is though to depict the Expulsion from Paradise made at the first English tapestry factory set up by the Sheldon family in Barcheston, Warwickshire.

It was bought by the Dents from a Sale at Hill Court. It has been estimated that three weavers working together would have taken between five and six years to complete the tapestry

5. A lock of Katherine Parr's hair

Perhaps one of the castle’s most intimate and moving artefacts, this preserved lock of hair is believed to belong to Queen Katherine Parr, whose final resting place lies within St Mary’s Chapel here at Sudeley.

6. Louis XV Aubusson bed hangings made for Marie Antoinette

Yes, really! A surprising touch of French royal history in the heart of the Cotswolds, these exquisite bed hangings created for Marie Antoinette are among the many unexpected treasures waiting to be discovered at Sudeley. They werebought for Sudeley by the Dents at the Strawberry Hill Sale in 1842
